His opponents when he was at Pitt had DBs lining up 10 yards off the ball. In the SEC we have DBs pressing our WRs. When we have only 2 WRs who are 3 star guys lining up, the opposing team presses them, has 1 safety dropped back, and puts 8 in the box every time.

Well you would think the head coach gives the final say so on what type of game plan we are going to run so I would assume it was O.

No. You answered your own question. His offense is difficult to learn. There in lies some of the problem.

How clemson don't have an SEC defense. they are Built like an sec defenses size and all they beat Alabama

It was a joke. I did not comment on the quality of their D. I said that they were not a SEC defense. You do know they're in the ACC, right genius?

What is he missing with this offense

An above average QB
An above average O-line coach/recruiter
An above average O-line with depth
An above average receiving corps
The opportunity to play 85% of his games against non-SEC/SEC type defenses

I don't think Canada is a bad OC at all.

Agreed.

And I think he's been pretty forthright about his ambition to be a HC. His career can ill-afford to tank at LSU.

I'm thinking short practices and lack of reps during offense install= too much scheme, not enough tech,.

OMG shut uuuuuuup. He's perfectly fine. It's inconsistent OL and dropped passes more than anything else. Then on the flip side, no depth on DL, so no pass rush.

No. When he was good he had a good QB. Can you name any Pitt or NCst WRs in his time at those places? His OL problem at Pitt was schemed around, you can go look this up for proof. Dropping passes happen all the time but when you are like 100 or worse in pass attempts per game, 3-4 drops looks way worse.

Tired of the excuses for Etling. If this was a perfect team, fine he'd do okay, but it's not, That's why a playmaker is needed because QB is literally the most important position on the team. Good QBs mask/bandaid a lot of problems with an offense. Etling only adds to the problem because of his limited abilities. Guice needs somebody to take the attention off him. Nobody is scared of presnap motion when only 4-5 plays are called.

My guessing is that Canada is limited because Etling is. He averaged 29 and 32 passes per game when he had Brissett at NCst. At Pitt he had a QB that had previously thrown 20 TDs had over 2500 total yards and another rushing TD before Canada even came there.

I just think he doesn't trust any of those positions well enough to open the passing game up

So he trusted NCst to throw it 30 times a game? No, they failed to truly work on the passing game in the off-season. They believed they could just run over teams and Etling throwing sideline passes and bombs would be enough. No, you actually have to think.

Pitt's OL is absolutely better than ours.
Anybody that can't see that is absolutely delusional. (16 on here so far)

Individual size and strength doesn't matter if you have no technique, have no clue what the play call is and what your individual assignment is.

If ALL 5 OL's aren't on the same, it falls apart and any physical superiority is nullified.

That's been the Jeff Grimes OL modus operandi ever since he's been here. They can't consistently execute his scheme. (And nothing will change until he's out the door)

The new guy coming in will have to overhaul the system and significantly increase the standards of OL recruiting!................

How is the D a bigger problem? Aranda will get the defense right.

The defense is just young. That’ll get fixed. The O-line has been a problem with Grimes. Up and down play. Sometimes dominant. Sometimes getting manhandled. I think that’s the root of the problem.

I don’t bash coaches, but I wouldn’t mind some fresh air at the o-line coaching area.

Etling MAY be a bit of the problem, but it’s hard to measure it if you can’t protect him. I DO see him leaving the pocket early (ish), his deep balls consistently go out of bounds (which IS better than an INT, but doesn’t allow our WR a play on the ball). That said, his check downs have good touch and he throws a very nice out route (though without a ton of velocity). He CAN throw a slant so no idea why we aren’t doing that more and the wheel route would’ve been there versus MSU, though that takes time to develop. WR drops are drops and yes, one WR got hit in the face with the ball, BUT looking at that route the ball could’ve been a touch early (the wr should’ve turned his head sooner yes).

Maybe Etling is scared of making a mistake possibly?
