Little girl hospitalized after being hit by foul ball at yankees game. Netting NOW!

It's well past time for netting. The NHL took swift action after the Britannie Cecil tragedy. MLB inaction putting people in harm's way.

Even the majority of players say there needs to be netting.
Thoughts and prayers for little girl.

Welcome to yesterday

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often.

It was a 2 year old. Just terrible.
Lucky to be alive.

I would not sit that close to the field with a small child.

Not in favor of netting. Would ruin the viewing experience

I agree.
Not trying to be insensitive but this doesn't happen that often. The experience shouldn't be ruined by over-cautiousness.
Even sitting behind home plate is overrated because you have the net in your way the entire time.

Yea, every time I sit behind home plate I can only think to myself i really wish this net wasn't here

You literally don't even notice the net being there if you don't go in with a piss poor attitude about it.

I'm sorry, I thought my sarcasm was clear...I'll try better next time

I feel really bad for the little girl and I hope she gets better. Her parents are morons

I wasn't directing that towards you. You're just the one I clicked reply to. Figured you could see I was in agreement with you

Why do people even bring little children to baseball games where theres an inherent risk a ball could strike them at any time in the un-netted areas of the venue? That's automatic assumption of the risk and reflects very poorly on the parent/guardians. Just common sense yo.

Obviously feel for the little girl and family, but how would you feel if you killed a 2 year old with a foul ball. Sure it’s not intnentional but that’s going to frick with you

Netting will not work. Yes, if you are sitting behind home plate looking at the field no problem. However, try looking through netting at an angle... even from just past 1st or 3rd base back toward home plate. You can barely see home plate. Those quickly become terrible seats with netting.
Don't believe me? Look through a hurricane fence straight on and then try looking through that fence at an angle. Find a long fence and look at something 50 yards down at an angle. View is mostly obstructed.
Everyone looks at netting and says it is great. Makes sense until you realize exactly what happens to netting when you try looking through it at an angle. Not nearly the cure some of you think it is.

How far do you extend it? I've seen some screamers enter the crowd pretty close to the foul poles.
I would say you've gotta at least go to the edge of the infield dirt.
Wrigley nets just go up to the beginning of the dugout.

We should remove the glass from hockey games too, huh?

No you havent. Youve seen some balls that were screamers like 200 ft prior to entering the stands near the foul poles.
