With SP's contract, our only hope is that someone is willing to take him from us

I can guarantee...Benson ain't firing SP and eating 36 mill. No chance whatsoever.
With the contract intact, a "trade" of sorts without actually anyone giving up any compensation is the only chance we have. They just take him and his contract.
The most likely scenario, to me, is the Bears. Fox probably won't last past this season, they have a Rookie QB going into his 2nd year to groom, Ryan Pace (if he's still there after this season) obviously has a long relationship with SP, and SP is from the area and played for the Bears in the scab year.
Its the perfect fit.

The issue I have with Payton is he seems to have booked it in here. Does anyone remember his earlier years here how much energy he use to show on the sideline? Now he seems like he really doesn't give a shite and just gives Zoolander faces all game. I can still remember when he'd jump up in joy with all those magical timely play calls he'd run on offense in critical moments. I don't think he's a bad coach at all...the problem is he just doesn't care anymore. It's almost as if he's like a money player except he's a coach.

Yeah I just saw you beat me to the punch in another thread and commented on it.
Obviously I agree. Its really our only option.

Ya damn right and I actually think it's plausible

The Bears just make way too much sense IMO. Perfect situation.

I'd add Colts and Jets to the list.

Payton would have to want to go to a place for him to accept getting "traded" there, and I think he wouldn't want to go to the Jets.
Indy is a really good thought. Houston make some sense. Very much to a lesser extent Jax.

the only thing that could change things here is if benson fired loomis and took away all player personnel and coaching staff decisions from payton.
that can work
if payton were relegated to just giving his views and input into what he wants, but in the end, its the GM who makes the decisions on what players to bring in and positions to draft, as well as when coordinators and coaches need to be fired and replaced, then the team could improve and have success.
if payton were relieved of all decisions related to the players as well as coaches we have, and was only to coach the team and call plays, I think we can be successful with him.
because lets face it, no team would be silly enough to take on his huge guaranteed contract, they might agree to those numbers but not the guaranteed part.
this experiment of payton having allen learning on the job and hoping that "maybe" "at some point" "figuring it out" just aint happening for us

Its freaking New York. He has history with New York so there's that. Jets could land first pick of draft and Payton can groom QB of his choice.

For those who think Payton has phoned it in due to his look on the sideline, I offer a different hypothesis...he knows his team sucks and he is doing what he can with what he has.
I am not an NFL coach, but I have coached several kids teams in various sports. I can tell you a coach knows early on when their team just sucks. But, you have to get them ready to play, knowing that you have little hope of winning.
That is the face I see on Sean Payton. My wife accused me of having the same face during my daughter's volleyball games...just numbly staring, knowing their ain't shite you can do because your team just doesn't have the talent.

I'm assuming his contract is like most player or other coaching contracts... We only owe the money if he doesn't get another job. Do you really see Payton quitting coaching? I don't.

I could see him taking 2 years off and being on a "shadow staff" somewhere or taking it easy before he gets back in.
Benson isn't taking that chance.

Yes, but he has a major say in the make up of the team, so if the team sucks, it is majority his fault.

But he's picking the team????
Posted on 9/18/17 at 11:01 am to breauxmosexual
why would any team trade for him at this point? he's proven that he's incapable of fixing the defense to even a barely acceptable level. we aren't talking about your average NFL bad defenses. his defenses have repeatedly been the worst defense in NFL history.
as far as the offense goes, it's been great his entire tenure here, but it's also been led by the 3rd greatest QB of all time. the Grayson pick says alot IMO. Payton took Grayson over guys like David Johnson, Danielle Hunter, Ty Montgomery and Kwon Alexander and got absolutely nothing out of him.

why yes he did. that's such a great observation by you.

you laughing with me or at me chad?
anyway, the point isn't that Grayson busted, the point is that if you take a QB in the 3rd round with a HoF QB still on your roster and you need as much defensive help as you can get, you better be as sure as possible that the QB isn't going to be a total bust. they didn't even trust him to be the backup in year 3 and Daniel looked atrocious in the preseason.

When I say "trade" as noted in the OP, I simply meant they would take on him and some version of his contract so we don't need to pay him the full amount. No compensation.
Have you seen the constant re-treads that keep getting hired again and again in the NFL that have far worse resumes than SP?
There would be quite a few teams interested in him.
