In this day of high student loans, having a higher income doesn't mean as much. Plus cost of goods are higher, cars cost more, etc. Kids ain't cheap either.

$180k salary in Louisiana puts you in a Mastercraft. Unless you have to pay private school tuition. Or law school loans.

This "by state" stuff is really stupid. Upper-income in Manhattan is not that same as upper-income in Buffalo.

Cost of living is relatively accurate by city, but not at all accurate by state.
