I have a small non dislocated labrum tear in my left shoulder. Doing rehab now. I had surgery on my right labrum 12 years ago and the rehab was awful. I really don't want to have surgery again. Question is has anyone had a small tear and rehabbed and resumed lifting long term? Right now I've shut down any overhead presses and heavy bench and focus on daily shoulder stretching and strengthening.

You could try PRP injections and rehab, but in my experience, once your shoulder is fricked, it's fricked. You are likely only delaying an inevitable surgery. I know I'm gonna have to get my right one cut on again soon. It sucks. Good luck.

I recently had surgery on my right one , that was approximately five years after the initial injury.... It eventually just fell off ... Hopefully you will have better success than me

I'm in the same boat, essentially. Have had 2 R shoulder surgeries. Now have mild labral tear and mild supraspinatus tear of L shoulder, caused by golf. Doc said to rehab; not surgical yet. So I'm gonna rehab for a while, and see how it goes. As bad as surgery is, I don't want to live without golf. If lifting is that important to you, I would rehab for a few months and see how it goes. General rule of thumb: if it hurts, don't do it.

Yeah I have had the surgery before so I know how bad the rehab sucks. Trust me I'm not. Pushing anything that hurts. I have a great PT whose program is working well So far. Just will. Have to change what I consider working out.

I've had a labrum tear for 5 years. I still lift but it hurts all the time and wakes me up every night. I think I'm biting the bullet on surgery this winter.

I have the same in my right shoulder. Took 4 months off from swimming and it never got better before I went to the orthopedist and had an MRI.He gave me a topical ointment called Pennsaid and that was a miracle drug. It knocked the inflammation out of my shoulder within a week and I was back to swimming. I did a little bit of PT but don't do the exercises like I should. He gave me the option for surgery but didnt recommend it as the immobilization of my right arm would be 6 weeks and rehab a bitch. 6 weeks without my right arm is not possible in my line of work and .....stress relief.....I'm not bi.

Stem Cell

Major League pitchers have had it done and returned to pitching after labral tears.
Bartolo Colon had it done (with PRP I believe)

I tore my labrum 6 years ago and my shoulder was never the same even after surgery. I've had numerous MRIs on both shoulders since then but I've always continued to lift heavy with proper form. Proper form is the key and I still tend to avoid overhead presses altogether.

The girl I was seeing at the time had a dad who was a PA at the local orthopaedic center. He told me that unless you're an athlete competitively playing a sport then there's really no need to get surgery. Supposedly it's not common to get surgery in other countries for a torn Labrum.

It hurts like a bitch and rehab is a bitch but just manage your workout appropriately and you should be fine.

When I tore my right one it was a bad one. Dislocated completely. Somewhat healed but shoulder was never stable. Waited 2 years till I couldn't sleep. Because entire arm would go numb. I. Could lift heavy but couldn't do many reps before dead arm would set in. Finally had surgery in 04 and shoulder has been good as new since then. The rehab after 4 weeks of immobilization is horrible.

Just had follow up with my ortho today and he ordered the MRI (with dye) with suspicion of a torn labrum. I'm still working out, but it's painful

Have you tried crossover symmetry? Hear that shite works wonders for rehabbing shoulder problems.

They are similar to those cable machines you see the bros on but give you a specific protocol for activation, recovery, and rehab. You get a set of stretchy bands of different tensions that can be attached to a rack or door.

My warmup:
Standing row
Lat pull down
Face pull
45* front raise
Scapular pressing/bear hugs
Victory raise
