He didn't say it was a 100% relationship with bad outcomes. It's naive to think it doesn't have a uniquely negative influence. Spend some time talking to defendants or prisoners and over time you'll hear the influence rap and it's provocative imagery had on so many.
I'm guessing it was the rap music that made them do it. And they all came from stable households in nurturing environments with positive role models. If only they hadn't listened to rap music they would have been model citizens.

No one in this thread mentioned it yet, but the album Paid in Full by Eric B. & Rakim would be an excellent album for the kids as it's clean and Paid in Full is a top 10 hip hop album of all time.

The only rap my kids listen to is country rap.
Check out the Jawga Boyz and the LACS.

Sub thought Nuthin But a G Thang, one of the most famous rap songs of all time, was appropriate for a 9 year old child.
I suggested it based on the OP's criteria with a precursor that it contains some foul language. I made a mistake on how much foul language based on my memory and owned up to it. But somehow you think memorizing every lyric to one famous rap song makes a person some kind of rap scholar. Get over yourself.
You on the other hand are so pretentious that you felt the need to inject your "wisdom" on rap music and sampling.

Dee-1, New Orleans musician. Some of his songs are Christian, some just funny or inspirational like his "I Finished Paying Sallie Mae Back."

Sounds like you're the snowflake, since you're melting over a musical genre as the downfall of society.
Everybody in this county is a snowflake now if you disagree with their stance. From the whiny PC liberals to the crazy-arse militant conservatives, all the way up the the POTUS. No group has a monopoly on that anymore. When someone responds to a mundane statement by calling someone a "bigot" or a "snowflake", that pretty much tells me all I need to know about their cognitive ability.
But back to the subject at hand, I'm not much of a rap guy, but I second the notion of getting them an edited Kendrick Lamar CD. The latest album is killer.

Haven't read the thread but me and my son blast Licence to Ill in the car when it's just us. I've recommended Aquemini to him but no idea if he ever listened.

Nothin' but a G Thang - has "arse" in it, other than that - clean.
"Now you know I ain't with that shite lieutenant,
Ain't no pussy good enough to get burned while I'm up in it"
comes immediately to mind but it's actually a good message.

They were definitely more low key about it but I don't think "I need it, I eat it, jellyroll" was referring to pastries.

I look back now at the songs I was singing along with as a kid, and it's laughable how much was at least 'inappropriate'. But when you're young enough to just take the words for what they are and not knowing any differently, it's harmless. My parents must have been laughing/cringing at the stuff I'd sing around the house. If they would have taken the approach of saying, "No! That's bad! You're not allowed to listen to that!", then I would have asked why, they would try to explain it, and by default I would have grown up WAY too fast. We've all seen what those kids are like.
If it's suggestive or contains double meaning, I see no issues. It's the f-bombs and all the other obvious negative language that should not be introduced into children's homes. Eventually, they'll hear the blatantly obscene stuff at a friend's house or on the school bus....that's inevitable. I don't think parents should be listening to vulgar things in front of their kids.....unless you are going out of your way to have trashy kids.
Before I get blasted for this, I have Dre, Snoop, NIN, Marilyn Manson, Eminem, Pantera, Eazy-E, RATM, and many other 'explicit' artists on heavy rotation on my playlists......and I have no kids. I'm certainly no authority on this, II just appreciate the way my parents handled the situation.
