You have no evidence of this. I listened to tons of rap growing up, and turned out fine. So if it's, as you say, "one of the largest contributors to poisoning our youth", then why didn't I turn into a criminal / thug?

He didn't say it was a 100% relationship with bad outcomes. It's naive to think it doesn't have a uniquely negative influence. Spend some time talking to defendants or prisoners and over time you'll hear the influence rap and it's provocative imagery had on so many.

He said it is "one of the largest contributors to poisoning our youth." If it's such a huge contributor, I'd likely be affected. But I'm not. I'm not saying it has no influence, but this is the same stupid argument that the idiots were making when they were trying to censor lots of albums with vulgar language by putting "Parental Advisory" on them.

Let's move on to how video games have poisoned our youth, as well as horror movies, etc.

Yes, these things influence people, but not having good parents and role models (that they know in-person) are a much bigger problem, infinitesimally.

Those metal bands during the 1980s didn't have as large a culture built around them. They didn't foster kids trying out the occult. There wasn't an influx in the prisons of those sorts. Rap on the other hand normalizes criminal behavior and we do see tens of thousands who mimic the lifestyle and continue to speak of its imagery as a life goal even while suffering the consequences.

Lol I thought that we did the whole "Rap is ruining our kids" thing in the 90s? It was without merit then as it still is.

Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, The Roots, Chiddy Bang, etc.. For a 9-year old you'll want to search for clean versions as thyell still pepper in the "N" word and various curses but for the most part it's not too graphic.

Once someone says "snowflake", i pretty much stop listening to the garbage spewing from their mouth.

Seriously, it would be a better use of your time to find the original music that these guys steal for their "samples"

Most of the time the "samples" are the only thing inspired or creative within their music anyway.

Can you not listen to both the sampled record and the song that used the sample? I'm pretty sure I do both.

You could, but in 99% of cases would you want a 9 year old child listening to the song using the sample? Naw

here comes bigorangebri spewing his words of wisdom on music, even though that's not what the OP asked for.

This is you.

Hahaha, Sub thought Nuthin But a G Thang, one of the most famous rap songs of all time, was appropriate for a 9 year old child. It's clear you have very little knowledge on the subject, therefore your opinion means nothing.

Where did I reply to you anyway?

Try to listen to Eminem's songs. Most songs always have a meaningful translation behind the lyrics

Most popular rap nowadays is pretty tame compared to the gangsta rap of the 90s.

The edited version of Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z's latest albums would prolly be fine.
