Long walk through sketchy hoods, Uber or cab from your hotel. Have them drop you at the edge of campus(near Chimes or Barnes & Noble bookstore).
Chimes and Walk-ons are both good.
Check out Memorial Tower, Indian Mounds, Lod Cook musueum(not sure if open on game day), get an ice cream at the Dairy store(made on campus), pass by Mike's habitat(coolest mascot in the nation), then just wonder around and strike up conversations at various tailgates. Be cordial and you'll be feed more good food and drinks than you can handle. LSU like any fan base has their fair share of dumbasses, just ignore them and have a great time. The is no place like Death Valley on Saturday night.

Man, You guys are amazing. I'll re-read this thread a few times before the trip, but some great info so far.
I think we might end up at the BR Marriott. Pretty sure we chose the casino because it was half the price. I figured since the flights were kinda pricey, and my alcohol bill wont be cheap (I have an enlarged liver, only way to treat it is to drown it in booze. But please don't treat me any differently, I'm still a person) we might as well cheap out on the BR hotel that we will only be using for the bed. Leaving that one up to the GF.
Either way, we'll uber to one of the many locations you've recommended. I have the "game day activities" printed out from the LSU website, we'll hit as many as we can.
So many great food recommendations.
If I get my nose broke because I told some dude I got my shoe up his arse, somebody's going to owe me a beer.
The girlfriend will be excited about the hot and humid weather. She absolutely hates being cold. Most of our trips from Alaska are winter trips to cold locations for Cuse basketball. She's due for a warm Cuse trip.
Reading through this thread has me even more excited than I already was. I've heard you guys were hospitable, but man, sounds like we are going to be alright!
I'll keep checking back to see if anything else is added, or if I have any other questions.
If you'd like, Once/if I make it back home, I'll post a little recap of our first LSU experience!

Its funny how racist this place is. You guys tell visitors to not walk from hotel because of extreme ghetto as if they will be raped robbed and killed before getting to the game. Im from that are and yes crime does happen but cmon man.. these are just very low income people living in trash. But i guess if your Black or Hispanic you're a criminal.
P.s. walkimg from the hotel to TS is not logical
So, why didn't you just say that in the beginning and stfu with all the other gibberish, cause, it is what it is.

Im an uber driver. I would suggest you get dropped off on Dalrymple close to the farternity/slutority houses and just walk in to campus from there. Its about a half mile walk to the stadium but you will pass up tailgates, the parade grounds (avoid people with purple casts), the bell tower and really be able to see the majority of campus. You will get tigerbaited but those same people will offer you food and liquor.

Your exactly right . I'll take it a step further & suggest maybe parking in Zion City & making the trek from there. That way they get to experience the diversity of the city (They got some brothas in the back that have never even seen white folks before) Also, Maybe as he's walking through he should say in his whitest voice ever: "What's up my bro's ? Y'all all have the day off today ?

If you like seafood, come by our tailgate. Corner of Tower drive and Highland.
We usually get endless shrimp catered from Red Lobster. It's great bc the shrimp is delicious (fresh caught) and it's endless. Some of the best Cajun food in town. (Forget about these "John Besh" nonsense. The man doesn't have a kid for his seasonings!)
How do we get this crazy deal, you ask? Well, my uncle worked his way up to night manager at the Red Lobster in town, so my tailgate has an in.
If you want cheap, possibly dirty, non FDA approved rubber noodles and "meat"--try one of these other tailgate's pastalaya lol (they try hard, so give em a break. Not everyone can he as good as chef Jeremy at Red Lobster)

Not sure what time you will be getting into your casino hotel Friday afternoon, but on Fridays, the downtown has free outdoor concerts a couple of blocks from where you will be staying called Live After Five. I think the bands usually play from about 5 to around 7 or 8. Beer and vendor trucks set up nearby. Nice oyster bar nearby, Jolie Pearl. Decent sushi restaurant at the top of the building housing the Manship Theater and art museum called Tsunami. Nice rooftop bar up there where you can have a drink or two and watch the sun set over the Mississippi River. Can see TigerStadium from there and they light it up at night. Some good restaurants downtown like Stroube's, etc. Hotel people can give you some recommendations and directions.
You already have some good recommendations for checking out the tailgating Saturday before the game. Prepare to hear Tigerbait more times than you can count. But if you just laugh it off and reply with something like "orange bait", you will likely get a laugh, and invited to share some excellent food and drink. Most folks are pretty hospitable and like to show off their cooking to out of state fans.
Would recommend you be inside the stadium for the pregame festivities. Ladies have to have clear bags. You can check the stadium rules on LSU sports.net.
Have a good time, be safe, and welcome to the real Death Valley, where you will hopefully leave with some good memories but no win.
Geaux Tigers!!!

This is my favorite Friday night idea so far. Outdoors, negates the issue of finding a place ready to take on 20-50 cuse fans. The lady and I never pass up a chance to do some dancing. Rooftop bar sounds like a perfect way to end the night.
A tiger fan that swung over to our board (syracusefan.com) recommended Lava Cantina for an Aerosmith coverband as well. Might head there after.

If you've never been here and you're coming down with your girlfriend, here's a warning. SEC schools have the best looking women in the Country and Baton Rouge is right up at the top. If you want to avoid pissing off your girl, bring a good pair of sunglasses and practice moving your eyes while keeping your head still. Most times, "do you think she's prettier than me?" is a trick question. Here, unless she's a dumbass, she's gonna know you're lying, so you may as well tell the truth. Who knows, she might be into it!

The Pastime has gotten only a couple of nods on this board for reasons I'm not sure. It's the one you've seen referenced under the Mississippi River bridge and it is in walking distance from the casinos downtown. It's been around over 70 years, is absolutely chock full of LSU memorabilia, and has the coldest beer and (imo) and best pizza in town. They do have a shuttle to the stadium (and I agree with the others -- don't walk there for safety reasons) but it doesn't start to roll until closer to game time than you want to be on campus. But once om campus, as others have noted, you wear your colors and you'll be invited to have a seat, get a drink, and have something to eat just about anywhere you turn. We're a fun group -- welcome to Baton Rouge and geaux Tigers!!!!

*quick phone call to Alaska Airlines to cancel her ticket*
Ughh I'm screwed. I love the heck out of my girl (who's pretty decent on the eyes herself), but man, we don't get many great looking girls up here in Alaska, and they are all wearing 15 layers of clothes. My drunk lil head is going to be on a swivel.
We are probably going to have to have a conversation about this on the flight down

If it's not too late, I would recommend yall cancelling your rooms and rebooking at the Hilton downtown. That way on Friday yall can walk to Live after 5 and the street is full of restaurants and bars. Tsunami is the rooftop Japanese restaurant that would be cool to have drinks and take pics with the river/bridge and stadium in the background. They have a shuttle that will take you to campus on gameday and back for like $20 a person. I don't think it's a Hilton shuttle, just a random shuttle company that sets up right there by the Hilton and Hotel Indigo. I promise everyone will be much happier at the Hilton than the casino hotel.
eta: Take my advice as a female looking out for the females in your group. They will be much happier if change hotels.

Also, as I stumble around different tailgates meeting new best friends, is there a way to tell if it's a "tiger droppings" tailgate?
I don't want ask 50,000 people if they post on tigerdroppings lol.
