I have no doubt Paterno knew Sandusky was, at minimum, sexually attracted to boys, prior to 2001. The 1998 incident in the article, and the 1999 incident where the boy's mom got pissed when Sandusky returned him with wet hair, is enough evidence to get proper authorities involved.
Paterno must've known, but so must have a good number of ADs throughout college football in the late 90s. Sandusky was credited with being a defensive mastermind, was the heir apparent to Paterno for a decade, then retires in his mid 50s with no head coaching offers?

wasn't Sandusky turned in to the DA for those allegations, but was cleared by the DA who then disappeared?

Correct, sir. Sandusky was cleared because of his stature in society and his Aww, shucks manner. That's what made him such an effective predator. He was hiding in plain sight since, allegedly, the mid 70s.

Of course he knew, the incident at the hotel for bowl game in San Antonio destroyed any credibility JoePa had.
JoePa came to Sanduskys room, and when he walked in, there was the kid, laying in Sanduskys bed, watching TV. JoePa felt uncomfortable, and left the room, allowing Sandusky to prey on the kid, yet another night. JoePa knew all about the kid, what was going on, and did nothing.

I know a guy that was a sports writer for PSU and took a graduate class that Sandusky was in. Said Sandusky was always making fun of Joe Pa and talking shite. Really sad that Paterno put winning above everything.

I've talked to former players of tOSU/Big10 schools, and they all claimed sweater vest was a great guy, but got sucked into the worst CFB has to offer. Football factory and winning at all costs.
