That's all they'll do.
Who are they? We're talking about 50,000 employees, not just executives making $$$$.

This whole issue doesn't matter at all because they're not spending $5 Billion on a new campus in shite arse Ohio.
Yet they just spent over a billion already in Central Ohio alone, and those data center jobs aren't just low skill and/or education labor. I have no illusions about Ohio being the greatest place on earth by any means, but we have the 5th most fortune 1000 companies out of all of the states.

Columbus in particular is growing pretty rapidly (not Seattle or Austin levels). Amazon had invested like 1.5 billion; Facebook has invested 750 million; we have 500 million invested in a 21st century transportation initiative. Corporate taxes are low; cost of living is low. We have one or the largest universities in the country and within a few hours of a slew of other top universities.

So maybe Boston or DC makes more sense, for obvious reasons, but you're acting like we're Detroit or something.

And frankly, while I like Seattle, given the cost of living, somewhat isolated location, weather that is not for everybody, and tax rates, Columbus would be a better location for a major company than Seattle, industry specific needs aside. And if we had the other Amazon headquarters, then all of a sudden many of those advantages that Seattle had, wouldn't be much of an advantage afterall.

Austin better start building more homes and roads - it's gonna be fricking crazy here when Amazon moves in. Oh, and I want a bridge across Lake Travis. Goddamn it's about time we're able to travel from the Northshore to the Southshore without having to drive 200 miles to do so.

Home prices are gonna be even more nuts than they are now...

No, because of the fricking lake.

We had a great chance to start construction on a bridge back when you could essentially walk across the bottom of that fricker a few years ago, then it rained one weekend...and all the water came back.

With Whole Foods and UT, Austin seems like an ideal location; however, given the ridiculous growth that's already occurring, it seems like it's almost too hard to keep up as is. Can it handle that many more people on top of the current growth?

I mean Franklin County (Columbus) has added almost 200,000 people since 2000 growing at about 1.1% per year, and we have house shortage issues as is.

In that same time, Travis County has added almost 390,000 people at about 2.5% per year, and it didn't look like you have an outerbelt in place like we do. I don't think people realize how valuable that is, and they are currently adding lanes on multiple places just to keep up with the increase in traffic.

At its current rate, Travis County will add almost 130,000+ people by 2020. With 50,000 more jobs, plus families and jobs that result from that, I would think Amazon alike would result in at least 130,000 more people. Obviously people can sprawl further out, but is 65,000 people per year even feasible, especially given the current infrastructure?

Well they would probably be a bit more excited when a person with a $100,000 salary in Seattle would be able to get by on roughly a $64,500 salary in Columbus while maintaining the same standard of living.

Cost of living comparison

Granted that would be offset somewhat by income taxes (which I didn't see in the calculations), which would add about 5,000 to an adjusted gross income of 100,000 but our sales tax is about 2% lower.

I could see them being fine with Boston or Denver for instance.
And Boston has an even higher cost of living (need to make about $102,851), then add another $4,800 in state income taxes.

So if $35,000 extra dollars in disposable income is not incentive enough to choose Columbus over Boston for a person making $100,000 isn't enough, then you're absolutely right.

Ugh, it'd make Huntsville a lot more liberal. And the traffic worse. But hey, I say bring it on and build a new 72 alternate, this time from Athens across north Limestone to the north side of Huntsville. Annex away, bitches.

Yes, but it would maintain their tradition of call center employees who don't speak English.

It's certainly out but that's not why. Baton Rouge metro is 850,000. New Orleans metro is around 1.15 million.

I'm guessing Boston or Philly suburbs.

Outside shot would be Pittsburgh or Austin.

Their money is fine, it's just the 50k lib voters they'll flood the area with that's the problem.
