I imagine the average construction worker has more assets in 5 years than the average guy in the NFL. Athletes are notoriously terrible with money.

The average football player only has to work two seasons to blow out the lifetime earnings of an average scientist, possibly only one depending on how you define "scientist."
The only difference is that as someone else meationed, one party is likely to far more intelligently manage their assets than the other.
