This is idiotic.

So essentially Stafford is getting paid for putting up tons of stats?

I would not have paid him that much if I was Lions brass

More money in Stafford just means less money for help around him.

I don't see how this makes the franchise any better.

This is how I feel.

I think my main grip here is with the ridiculous QB market in general.

I would of franchised him and let him roll.

Sink money in other areas of your team that are terrible and take a chance in the draft or free agency.

You obviously have serious problems if Stafford is incredible and you can't sniff the playoffs. And its obvious what they have been doing previously is not working.

Spend your money where you need it.

The NFL Radio guys were killing Ravens fans who use the Flacco contract excuse for their team being bad. They basically argued other teams pay Flacco type money and win, so there's no reason you can't be successful with these salary rates.

What are you going to do? The Lions are like an 8-8 team with him and 2-14 without him.

Yeah, I'm sure his life is hell, and he's far from mediocre.

It means average. He's a slightly better than average QB. Borderline top 10 type.

With both records you are out of the playoffs.

Its obvious the formula of paying Stafford is not working considering the return on investment.

They have plenty of money for FA next off-season.

Why would you franchise him and then let him walk? Why not just let him walk?

Maybe you haven't been paying attention, but competent QBs are few and far between. You want to let one walk with the hope of finding another in the draft?

so why are we trusting the Detroit front office now?

The answer is that the Ford family needs to clean house from the President down.

Absolutely, upgrade your team in other areas.

Its obvious the formula of paying Stafford is not working and has not worked the last 5 years or so.

if he said that he wants to leave if he is offered anything less than what he signed for...then I put him on the trading block.

That's silly. There's a reason you don't see competent QBs hit the open market. NFL teams know how valuable they are.

Free agent after 2018. Can't trade him. Only option is to resign or let him walk.

The cap hit is roughly the same whether they franchise him or sign him to this contract. There's not any extra money to be saved by franchising him.

Why would you franchise him and then let him walk? That makes no sense at all, either start the rebuild or long term deal. A franchise tag does not give you any more information nor does it make you an actual contender this year.

of course I try to resign him, but not at that number

We won't know how those talks went.

Like I said, they are just average with him for the last 7+ seasons. Average in total and very poor against good teams. Now you are locked in to several more years with him.

I get it if I'm Quinn. That decision is how he will be judged. Very hard to pull the trigger on a rebuild.
