These people represent such a small fraction of Americans that the number isn't even in significant digits. The media plays it because it's a free cast of entertaining characters.

Giving all morons a voice via the internet and social media. Used to, you would have to be educated and accomplished in order to get air time on television or something you believe printed into a magazine and newspaper. Today, uneducated pop culture heroes like Lebron and Kim K can influence millions of people without leaving their sofa.

The decline actually cranked up good with JFK's election to office and LBJ subsequently taking over after Kennedy was killed. LBJ put the country on the road to hell with his "Great Society." Until then everyone had to work for a living. After that, a certain group didn't. They just waited for their guv'ment checks.
