Hah. Sorry there's not much worth messing within 2 hours. The river can be good sometimes but even though it's public be prepared to defend yourself if you're in "someone else's spot". Bodcau has decent woodie shoots. There's some federal land down highway 1 that's hit or miss but it gets hammered.

I hunted the nearby public land hard the 4 years I lived there and maaaaybe averaged 2 birds/hunter effort. I had a couple memorable mornings, but mostly putting in way too much work to take a couple passing shots at woodies at daybreak and bagging a few blackjacks. Occasional green wings and gray ducks were the only good ducks we shot.

Red River
Bodcau

Best thing you can do is get in the pirogue or boat and do some scouting.

Bodcau can be great, but it takes some scouting

I got bad news, man. It's the worst duck hunting in the state.

Your options are as follows:
Drive to south la
Drive to Oklahoma
Drive to ne la / se Arkansas
Drive to Texas

I wish there was more but ever since the timber has fallen in on the red river and salvinia has hammered the lakes you are wasting your time on public. I could show you pictures of mallard shoots on public lakes in the area from 20 years ago that we probably won't ever see again. Either plan to travel, get in a lease, or do both.

Definitely correct.... It sucks now. There aren't any ducks. I wouldn't waste my time with it.

What about Wallace lake south of town? I used to kill birds out there when I was in high school.

Its full of salvinia and if your pow pow didnt hunt out there your truck tires might not have air in them when you get back to the launch.

Anything in this area is not worth the fight. Its just a bunch of kids that gang up and go out to broadcast on facebook.

I hunted all around NW LA during high school and college. Unless you like being frustrated, go to SE OK. Too many people and too few good spots. Agree with the other about Bodcau but be prepared to scout and stay late to shoot any big ducks
