Hannigriff "How much will LSU's offense improve in 3rd scrimmage?"

Wednesday on 104.5, Jimmy Ott expressed concern over LSU's passing, it hasn't looked good. Hannagriff agreed there is a concern but also agreed with ETling's statement to the media, that scrimmage stats can be misleading. Etling noted, that the LSU offense wasn't scheming against the LSU defense in scrimmages, just attempting passes in situations where the defense sort of knows what's coming their way, seeing if they could stop it.
Hannigriff also noted Harris' stats in previous scrimmages when he was the starter, scoring multiple TD's in one scrimmage, but no one had any idea if these were at the goal or inside the 20.
In The Advocate of Baton Rouge, it was reported that Canada will have installed all of the offense before the next scrimmage.
I agree. It will be interesting to see how much LSU's passing improves in it's 3rd scrimmage before BYU, and if Canada decides to finally scheme against LSU's defense to see how much he can depend on it, or if he already has an idea how much and doesn't want it advertised.
Sort of have to agree with Etling, in that when LSU's defense knows what you're planning to do in the passing game, no QB's stats will look great.

i think there's good reason to be concerned about the offense. our talent on that side of the ball is as low as i have seen it in quite some time.
O Line and QB are average
1 great RB then a big drop
Looking at the receiver depth chart is eye popping and not in a good way.

Seriously, how would he or any other media members know what our passing game actually looks like?

Etling will be fine. He actually has a decent QB coach, is healthy, and is in a creative offense with a dominant running back that will draw the defense's attention.
Can't wait to see the play action plays that Canada draws up for Etling.

My guideline since 2008 is assume the offense is horrible until the team proves it isn't.

we should be very concerned about the state of the oline.
etling is what he is.
just hope canada is as good as everyone says he is.

I don't feel nowhere near as gloomy as that!
I have confidence it will be a much improved offense, just not sure when it will occur in this football season.

i think Canada will help but there is a lot of myopia out there about this team.
Take away Key, Aranda, and Guice and what do we really have?

LSU has lots of unproven potential on offense, but as of know, it is going into the season with more question marks than at any point in the recent past.

why would anyone waste time on scheming against a defense you will never play?

It's been proven time and time again that stats are completely meaningless. I have no idea why people still pay any attention to them. The offense will be fine, Canada isn't going to install everything at once, it's going to be steps.
We might make some mistakes but I think the offense as a whole will offset any mistakes. This will and can be a big play threat type of offense in several different ways. I'm excited to see it. We are finally going to see guys like, Ducre, Clyde, Washington, Moore, Moreau, Pettigrew, Drake, Dillion, Gage, all involved and getting touches in various ways. I'm excited to see it.
If you haven't seen the new article where Aranda describes this years defense as "here we are what you going to do about it" then you should really look for it and read. I believe every word too. This defense will be ferocious.

just hope canada is as good as everyone says he is.
You don't really realize how important the OLine is until you have an OL unit that is bad.
LSU oline will likely perform adequately, but if they don't, it will become the most annoying thing about a football team.

pretty much this
although it doesn't prevent the heartbreak

Well Aranda isn't going to get injured so that's dumb, and I'll bet we will see exactly what we have without Key, and Guice in the very first game. Let me go ahead and say this now, Guice WILL NOT be this entire offense. We have athletes all over the place.

It would be nice to know where the LSU offense stacks up, against a comparable defense, like Bama's for example?

it's not dumb because even if you took Saban off of Alabama, you'd still have a roster completely made up of #1 recruiting classes to fall back on for the next few years.
People don't realize how much talent we have lost over the last few years. This is not the LSU of old with NFL talent all over the field. Outside of Guice how many sure fire NFL picks do we have on offense? Defense is a little better but still past Key you've got a handful of high potential guys but nowhere near as many as we used to have.
We have 2 elite players and an elite DC and after that it's nothing but maybes and question marks. That's a dangerous situation to be in.

Not to beat a dead horse but the line is my main concern as well. Etling is average at best. That's not the problem. I don't think anyone saw Nate Peterson as great QB either. So that's a draw in my opinion. Connor was a great veteran back and Guice is even better. What Canada had at Pitt that he doesn't have here is a strong veteran Oline. Not only will the affect pass protection but think about all those jet sweeps we've been gushing over. Those are meant to hold the LBs from attacking the ball but they won't work if a DT can shoot past an inexperienced young lineman and disrupt the play. Might not matter against BYU but it will definitely matter against those stud D lineman in the SEC.

I am cautiously optimistic folks are overstating the offensive issues.
Post Miles, we were a top 25 offense last year, even when you include the abysmal 125 against Bama.
I worry a little about line depth come November but not now. There is a ton of talent and athleticism on the field.
I think people forget we were productive post Miles. Even the florida game with 3 turnovers inside the 7 we still put up 423 yards. Canada will only improve that.

if we still had Dural, Tehuma, Posic, another elite RB, and Dupree then you'd have a point.
