The city is saved!
quote:
Baltimore removed four Confederate monuments early Wednesday after a white nationalist rally to protect memorials turned deadly over the weekend in Virginia.

Statues dedicated to Confederate heroes were swiftly removed across Baltimore in the small hours of Wednesday morning, just days after violence broke out over the removal of a similar monument in neighboring Virginia.
The city is saved!

The fact Baltimore even had Confederate monuments is newsworthy in itself.

How many Confederate statues are there? These states must have spent a small fortune erecting all of these.

Why is that a surprise? Maryland sympathized with the south and would have seceded if not for federal troops moving in.

yep... Lincoln instituted martial law in the state to keep Maryland from seceding and thus encircling Washington DC by the CSA

This shite is getting so ridiculous. Not a damn person was offended by any statue until it became "cool" to be and to become part of a movement. Politicians need to grow a set and say frick off. The statue has been there for 100 years and it's going to be there for another 100.

Because most people know absolutely nothing about the Civil War.

Government at work - sees that removing statues is causing problems, so it removes statues.

I know that, but in the end Maryland wasn't a part of the CSA and didn't provide much manpower to the South. So yes, it is a little surprising that a Lee and Jackson statue went up in the 1940s.

I'm shocked that civil unrest continues to thrive with these antifa freaks despite these statue removals. Isn't this what they wanted? At what point will they be satisfied? I suppose they can't be satisfied so what's the point of all of this?

George Orwell 1984
"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And that process is continuing day be day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except the endless present in which the party is always right."

Even though I disagree with the removal... you have to give Baltimore some credit for efficiency. The council voted Monday night to remove them, and the very next night they quickly and quietly removed them. Alot different than the boondoggle of a process Mitch used that caused mass unrest.

Up until the last couple of years these men were recognized as great leaders and good men. Only recently have kooks started demonizing them in a bid to get attention.

Marylanders never forgot what the bastard did to them, ever listen to their state song?

Wouldn't surprise me if some SJW set fire to one of the local plantations down here...they are next, mark my words.

and all the ills of Baltimore have been cured with this swift action. Time to start looking for real estate - that town is going to boom.

I would ask those intent on taking down "symbols of oppression" one very simple question: Has taking down these statues improved the quality of your life or those you care about even 1%? Because if not then this is all just an exercise in futility. When all the decaying stone is turned to dust, will you feel some sense of justice or will you wake up the next day with the realization that those you held as responsible for your lot in life cared almost nothing for the very symbols you felt emboldened to eradicate?
