Kind of an age-old question, but why are men so afraid of putting themselves out there? Men need to take more chances. I've seen/heard so many situations over the years where the guy thought he didn't stand a chance so he didn't take action, then later discovered the girl was into him too. The worst a woman can say is no, but men need to not be so afraid to hear no, and move to the next one if he does. Women will surprise you sometimes and give men a shot when they may not expect it. Women love a man who shows confidence and action. Just putting that out there to all of you who are still or back on the market.

As a trans man I can see how it seems silly, but since I started my hormone therapy I too get insecure around the opposite sex.

It's a guy thing, I'm guessing.

Single women fear rejection just as much.

As for the reason that anyone feels rejection? It feels bad, that is about all there is to it.

It's not always the "no" as much as how it is done.

Girls who think you are beneath them can be fricking cruel in their rejection.

That's terrible that people can be so condescending to a person who would put themselves out there.

Bumble has been an awesome experiment among my friend group. It turns out girls have just as much trouble putting themselves out there.

Only low value men think like this to the point they'd be paralyzed by fear of rejection. You can't lump all single men into this category.

Depends on the man and why he's pursuing.

If you're talking about a guy who's only goal is to frick you, then rejection is simply a numbers game. If not you, then the girl next to you. Guys in that mode aren't exactly worried about rejection...they're cold calling you. There's really no risk involved in that, so I've never found that trait to be all that admirable in a guy...it's easy, really.

If he happens to actually like you in a more meaningful way and might be interested in more than just fricking you tonight, then the fear of being rejected goes up a ton...because that matters more as it's a more impactful rejection of him as a person rather than just tonight's lay.

Problem is, women often treat both types of pursuits the same...either meaning that can't tell the difference or simply don't care.
