Miles at best was very mediocre. He should have left the coaching to his coordinators and his assistants, which he did with the defense but couldn't do with respect to the offense. Which is why we went through so many offensive coordinators. The offense would suck so after every two to three years Miles would fire the offensive coordinator and bring in someone new. Then after the first year, the offense would suck again and then Miles would fire the offensive coordinator and bring in someone else. Which worked for him for a long time. However, the reason the offense always sucked was that Miles couldn't keep his grubby hands off the offense no matter what and finally firing offensive coordinators again wasn't going to work anymore.

Indeed, in Jimbo Fisher's final season I remember observing several arguments between him and Miles. Hence, I don't blame him for not sticking around leaving when he did. Miles more or less was pushing him out

Nonetheless, we should have hired Jimbo Fisher instead of Miles, because that guy can coach, communicate, and is astronomically far smarter than Miles.

I still don't know what went on with QB development under Miles.

Russell/Flynn - already polished
Lee - thrown into the fire, was serviceable and actually was better his senior year than freshman
Jefferson - had a really good bowl game and then went downhill from there, regressing into one of the worst QBs to ever start so many games
Mett - here's the outlier - marked improvement from 2012 to 2013
Jennings - great performance against Arky and decent bowl, regressed from then on
Harris - breakout games against Moo State and UF, regressed horribly

Have you ever listened to the host and callers in any city with local shows? It's pretty sad is all I can say.

Says he doesn't think Miles was stubborn. Proceeds to describe examples of Miles that fit the textbook definition of stubborn...

Les Miles is a perfect example of refusing to change because you believe you're right versus actual results. We all admire uncompromising men because they're brave. But it is the ability to change and compromise that can make coaches some of the all time greats.

what?

miles inherited a Jruss that had 9tds/ 4ints and a 50.7 completion %.

Jruss wasnt polished in 2005.

QB A

15tds
9 ints
60.5 completion%
7.9 yards per attempt
136.6 qb rating
2443 passing yards
311 attempts
-22 yards rushing

QB B

17tds
7 ints
61.5 completion %
7.4 yards per attempt
137.2 qb rating
2166 Passing yards
296 attempts
171 rushing yards

one of those is Jruss during 2005 and the other one is Jordan Jefferson's 2009 season

Yeah, damn smart move replacing him with a DL coach.

You are trying to conflate two decisions into one. Firing Miles was unquestionably a good decision. Hiring his replacement was a completely separate decision. Whether it was a good one has nothing whatsoever to do with whether firing Miles was a good one.

No, they weren't. Neither of them was coming into 2005, although Russell had shown a LOT of flashes of brilliance with some inconsistency. But, we had Jimbo Fisher through 2006 and that made a world of difference.

Maybe and maybe not. This was not the same as firing a guy with a couple losing season, not going to bowl games, producing non-ranked teams, or his recruiting had turned to crap. If those things had been going on, then it would been
quote:

unquestionably a good decision
"

When you fire a guy who is still winning, you are taking a serious gamble and its only a good decision if the guy you bring in is more successful than the guy you fired.

It's not that big of a gamble when he's getting top 5 talent but not producing like the rest are.

Miles wasn't even winning bowl games like he use to.. it was time man. The offense was ridiculously stale.

An established LSU is a pretty good gig to get. Even a so so coach like Miles proved he could walk into an established LSU and have success. Imagine an actual above average coach at an established LSU.
