-Weatherby Vanguard S2 308
-Nikon 3-9x50 Prostaff scope
This is a combo that I am looking to get. I have been doing some research and these seem to be what I am looking for within a certain budget. Just wondering if any of you have had any experience with either of these. I appreciate any feedback.

These are the glory days of affordable deer rifles. Both of those are just fine. Sometimes combo deals come with really shitty scope mounts and you might want to upgrade that if they're junky. Otherwise, buy and shoot.

I have that scope on a 17hmr..it does more than fine. Probably overkill.
I am gonna buy a .243 soon, since I have never owned 1 before and I like to have several different calibers.
Thinking I will put that Nikon on the .243 and put a Tasco World class on the .17.

That will be a decent set up.
Looks like the gun is ~$500 and the scope should be ~ $230
So lets say $750 total.
If I could suggest a Ruger American Predator in .308 for less than $400.
Then put This Meopta Meopro 3-9x40 on it for $400

Purely for budget purposes, one can get a very cheap mossberg, stick a $150 Nikon on top, and have a very serviceable deer rifle for about $500 out the door ready to go.

You could probably get a Tikka for a similar price and it's made in Finland whereas the vanguard is made in Japan.

Team tikka checking in.
But I've heard good things about the vanguard2.
As downshift said, there are so many budget rifles that will shoot better than most hunters. BUT with that said, the bolt and trigger on the tikka are more comparable to $1500 rifles than $500 ones.
Imho

I love my vanguard s2. Mine is a 6.5 creedmoor with a trijicon scope on it. It's hard to take any of my other rifles hunting over that one. You won't be disappointed with the gun, I would upgrade the scope though.

That is a good combo choice.
S2's shoot well.
Upvote for tikka!! Ive killed several whitetails, 5 muleys and 1 elk with my tikka.
Dont spend more money and get a meopta. I had mine fail me on a 170" mule deer (moisture inside scope). Downvote meopta.
Good luck baw!

I've owned and hunted with that exact rifle for 5 years topped with the older Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 and couldn't be happier. Go for it!

Whatever you get make sure you shoot plenty of rounds through it for practice. I have 3 deer rifles and I grab the oldest one every damn time because when that shooter steps out I dont want any doubts and that damn thing has not let me down in 25 years.

Not bad.
But here's a pretty good deal from Browning for a comparable rifle and scope: AB3 and Nikon
I just looked on GunBroker and that model is going for $581.79 for rifle and scope with some dealers.
And I'd buy a Burris Fullfield 2 or E1 before a Nikon Pro Staff. Costs about the same and is a much better scope.
