It's DOA in the Senate unless they bump that number up. Now if the 3D chess guys are right and this is just an opening gambit to get us to a points system and they negotiate away the lower limit I will unironically, no bamboozle, praise Trump. But I doubt it is, you don't hire Sessions and Bannon and Miller because you like legal immigration.

The Catholic Church has failed Mexico and Central America miserably. They need to have a long talk in the mirror.

1. That's one Hispanic bishop from liberal Austin. I'm Catholic but he doesn't speak for all of us.
2. Why is a church leader getting involved in politics?

Prior to 1965, the U.S. immigration law was clear that only whites from Northern Europe were allowed to immigrate. In the early 20th century, there was a lot of gnashing of teeth about the Italians and Eastern Europeans (especially Jews) because a lot of people didn't think they should qualify as white. But the law had been changed (in the 20's I think) to allow them.
For this Mexican "Bishop" to sit there and say that America has "always welcomed all comers" is simply false. It's a myth that is perpetrated today without any basis in reality. Non-white immigration only started in any significant way in 1965 thanks to the Hart-Cellar Act. 1965 wasn't that long ago -- many people posting here were born prior to 1965.

The Catholic Church has done more harm than good in its history

Thank that piece of shite Ted Kennedy in the 1960s.

Yeah, day mad because as an NGO that processes migrants they stand to lose a lot of federal grant dollars.

Illegal aliens pouring across the border has never been a US immigration tradition.

At least we didn't come from somewhere that people still squat and shite on the ground, are heathens from the heart of darkness and are still too stupid to know how to dig a hole to drill for water.

As a Catholic, Bishops, Cardinals and Pope should not be involved in politics that involve putting at risk people of a home country by undermining policies that are instituted to protect. Thus, undermining that home country's ability to exist, earn wages and build capital. These things allow a great nation such as the U.S.to do the things it has done for a long time to defend and share with other peoples in need. Not to allow the destruction of that same society and capital by allowing every single human that wants a piece of the tit to partake. Otherwise, it will run dry and self-destruct.
A fairly easy concept of reality without being anti-anything.

Well we know their beliefs on immigration and it's been a consistent postion. This isn't new.
