Payton and injuries

I know you guys hate the media and bristle at anything that remotely takes their side, so this will get downvoted, but I have a question:
- Why does Payton act like injuries are top secret? Is it just a F you to the media?
- Does he really feel it's a competitive advantage in training camp not to disclose this stuff?
I saw in his press conference yesterday that he said it would take too long to go over all the injuries.
That's bullshite. They could have some lackey come out and go over the injury list - which is just about as important as anything else at camp.
I know I'm in the minority but I think this top secret stuff teams do is totally fricking stupid. In-season I can sort of get it when it involves game planning.
In training camp? I don't get it. What am I missing? I know he's not required to do it, but why not throw the fans a bone?

Yes. A better question would be, "Does it benefit the team for the media to know about player injuries?"

Because the league doesn't require he disclose them until a certain date. There's no benefit for him to disclose them.

He isnt required to. And if he says someone has a sprain, every day someone will be asking when his return will be. He rather talk about the progress of players.
I dont think he cares much for the media. From what I have been hearing Lattimore's injury wasnt serious.
As many injuries as this team has had in the past and sustained this year, it is BS to the fans that he doesnt at least report what the injury is if he knows.

I think it's more of a chain reaction than anything.
Sean Payton says Breaux has a specific injury.
Incoming 10 articles about Breaux injury, how long he's out, replacement options, etc.
He gets asked a million questions about Breaux afterwards when it could be something mild, never asked meaningful questions, and becomes a waste of time

Spinoff of this: Are there more injuries now than in the past?
It sure seems like it, but maybe it's just because of the 24 hour news cycle.
But I just don't seem to remember it being the norm to lose 1/3 of your starters on one side of the ball pretty much annually like it is now.

Here is your answer.

He doesn't want to answer 8 questions about every player's bruise or sprained ankle or whatever when the season is over a month away....it irritates him, understandably.

He does straight up lie about injuries. Remember Jabari Greer? Saints kept saying he was week to week but he missed about 9 games if I'm not mistaken and come to find out, he had a surgery that the Saints never mentioned during that period.
Am I remembering this correctly?
I wouldn't be that surprised if Unger is out much longer than week 3 of the preseason.

I remember Byrd wearing a hoodie and he was day to day. Any day now, we kept hearing. Unger is on disability until I see him practice or start a game.

Moreso than anything it's to protect the player's privacy and also help keep their injury from being targeted.
Then comes the strategy aspect where the less your opponent knows the better.
And maybe giving the media FUs is a fun bonus, but it isn't meant to be a spite to fans for sure.

This is a mischaracterization too. What he said is that he isn't going to explain every time a player sits a half practice or half practice or every time they leave the field for the training room.
He's not required to and I wouldn't either if I didn't have to. Think about the focus necessary to achieve and win at the NFL level. Occasionally competitive advantage might come into play. More so it is just the commodity of time and effort one has to go through with the media these days.

You're missing the fact that these coaches don't owe you anything you entitled prick
You're also missing the fact that 9/10 of the media's questions are absolute garbage

I don't disagree with the media's questions sucking, they totally do.
I do disagree with being "owed" something. This is not top secret freaking info we're talking about. Throw a bone to the fans.
I get that he doesn't want to do a million updates. He doesn't have to. The PR team could a daily statement that lists everything and they could still have their "no questions" policy.

all teams talk constantly with other teams about possible trades etc - ever think it would be a disadvantage to let another team know you HAD to have a lb,cb,ot etc in middle of talks ?????
