Name one QB who was labeled a project coming out of the draft that ever turned out to be really good? I can't think of a single one.

That Tom Brady fella that was taken in the sixth round turned out ok.

I said a QB labeled a project, not a complete afterthought.

How do you tell who is a project and who isn't?

No matter his mistakes or turnovers, he'll just come right back like it didn't happen. He seems kind of emotionless.

That has to be one of the "it" qualities for an elite QB in the NFL to have. A short memory. After a turnover or bad play, or an opponent TD, you have to come back in there carry on like it didn't happen.

What do you expect him to say? Watson is sorry, he is no good, and I asked my GM to draft him?

Its 70 miles closer to chicago.
Both trips over 7 hours by car.
Chi to atl flights abound, same as houston atl.

Weather is better in houston in winter for sure.

Better team, yes.

As for assertion no qb did well day one, not so.

Brady says hi. Was 1b at mich, starting many games but Chad henne was 1a. Injury to Bledsoe. Ta da.
I think rothlisberger was a star on day 1. He was brilliant at miami oh. Sagarin had them #6.

"project" denotes physical tools but raw or has to re-shape his game

Brady fell b/c of a lack of phyical tools. he was slow and didn't have a strong arm coming out

I wouldn't consider either one of those projects seeing how accurate they were in college and how many starts they had

Wilson fell due to his height and Dak fell because his ceiling didn't seem all that high at the time. He peaked his junior year and didn't make another leap in his senior season and they thought it would take a while for him to master a pro level offense since he came from such a simple type of spread offense

Brett farve I think would also fit really well in that category

Wouldn't you consider that a project?

This is why I asked for clarification on what the original poster considered "success" and how we tell who was a project coming out and who wasn't.

It is kind of a sliding scale it seems like.

When I think project, I think of dudes that can throw it out the yard but need time to develop mentally because they haven't had a lot of starting experience usually. Dak obviously didn't need that. But I guess that was what people thought of him before his season.

Dak to me at least seemed like he was just at his peak already, like there isn't more to his game that he hasn't developed already in his 2-3 seasons starking for miss state. That would very well be true still if his career stagnates because defenses adjust and he can't. But I was probably just wrong in my own accessment of him coming out in college

What was the knock on Dak coming out? If he was that ready for the NFL, he shouldn't have dropped to the 4th round.

STRENGTHS: Scouts are most impressed with his development above the neck, showing above average awareness as a passer, recognizing things quickly and working through his progressions to easily load and fire. Displays an ability to use his eyes and hold defenders and has a quick memory to move on from mistakes and not let the negative plays linger. Overall, he has a much more natural feel in the passing game than in 2013 and appears in complete control of that offense. When he does step into his throws, Prescott can deliver strikes. He's a very dangerous runner, combining aggression, agility and the power to break arm tackles.

quote:

WEAKNESSES: Work in progress as a passer but has a live arm and good field vision. His footwork is inconsistent and he loses accuracy when his feet are not set. Tends to predetermine some throws and relies on a lot of back shoulder patterns, something that got him in trouble against Auburn and Alabama. Has not shown the consistency to lead his team through the air in tough road environments when the ground game is shut down.

Last but not least

quote:

OMPARES TO: Tim Tebow, ex-Broncos, Jets, Patriots - It is the natural comparison, beyond just the connection to Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen, who was Florida's offensive coordinator when Tebow was in Gainesville. Although Prescott has a slightly better arm and more consistent mechanics, he and Tebow grade similar in several categories, including composure, mobility, power and leadership

From NFL.com
quote:

WEAKNESSES

Beat up this year thanks to poor protection. When he wasn't being sacked, he was being hit hard. Not as competitive a rusher in 2015. Sacks and usage in run game might be taking a toll. Increase in short pass attempts from 86 to 208 this year reason for higher completion numbers. Accuracy on intermediate and deep throws dropped sharply. Pocket poise has been compromised. Hyper aware of pressure around him and lacks awareness to slide and find temporary shelter to make throw. Concern over pressure too often trumps ability to get through progressions. Must speed up the pace of his reads. Footwork is a mess. Slight stride onto stiff upper leg with little weight shift. Restricted follow through and too often tries to muscle throws with upper body. Throws to target rather than leading or throwing them open on short/intermediate throws. Too respectful of underneath coverage and must be more willing to challenge the defense. Needs to improve anticipation.

Houston is actually further away than Chicago, but two out of three ain't half bad.
