The bill, proposed by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) on Tuesday, would remove marijuana from the federal scheduling system, which is the basis for its federal criminalization.
Great idea!

Specifically, the bill leverages federal funds to incentivize legalization in states that have enforced laws against marijuana in a way that disproportionately impacts low-income people and people of color
Can't we just have a great idea without attaching race or any partisan bullshite?

You should watch one episode of Live PD and see why this disproportionately impacts poor people and people of color. Most of the people that get caught with weed are fricking morons.

Get rid of income tax from pot revenue?
Seriously?
That just goes to show you how little you dope smokers pay in tax. It also goes to show how little you understand how much successful people actually pay.

Way to edit the comment...
Do you prefer taxes on your income...?

How so? What problems will arise that are comparable to other intoxicants? Which intoxicants are you comparing it to?

Well done Senator Booker.

Besides Washington and Colorado and what ever state legalized medical marijuana, where else is it taxed...? The street dealer?

This hasn't been my experience, at all..
That's why I pay the pros.

Well, the disproportionate impact is pretty obvious when you look at the data. I'd put more emphasis on the impact on low SES individuals than on the "people of color" because, in this case, the low SES status accounts for most of the "people of color". Paying lip service to the disenfranchised may well be a smart political play to give this bill some legs... wouldn't you agree?

With a similar provision to grow a reasonable amount at home.
F'smoking it if you could grow a reasonable about to bake or make edibles; that smoking is bad for the lungs.

You've obviously never heard of a vaporizer.
Edibles are not ideal and are usually the cause of mj-realted hospital visits.

Yep, with edibles you don't get that quick high and people keep eating more than they should and OD on it. Believe it or not..

It really isn't, though. It could easily be a by-product from police patrolling low-income areas (because that's where the majority of the crime occurs). That, combined with the inability for low-income individuals to hire good legal help, means higher incarceration rates.

There's warnings on the edibles here so if you eat too much it's your own fault. Same as if you exceeded the recommended dose of any other product.

I mean, I see what he's going for, but race is a divisive issue. I feel like you would be better off talking about all the high school and college aged kids that end up in jail or with criminal records for stupid arse reasons.
I realize a disproportionate amount of those high school and college aged kids are black, but wouldn't you get more people on board if you focused on age instead of race?

I'm with you. I don't have a problem with de- criminalizing it but I don't think the government should be a partner in it.
