Thoughts on buying a used boat and the manufacturer is out of business?

I am looking at 2000 Cobia deck boat but the manufacturer is no longer in business. How much of a concern should this factor into my decision? I tried to find an owners manual on-line but have been unsuccessful. I emailed the new manufacturer but they said they didn't have records on the older models, pre-acquisition.

Being a 17 year old boat, no problem.

yea.... a boat that old is going to have zero factory support anyway. Spare parts are going to be generic anyway.

I just bought an old Javelin. I'm not too worried about OMC being out of business.

I think they are part of maverick boats. Same parent company that makes hewes and pathfinders

They are part of Maverick now but apparently no records were retained for Cobia boats prior to the acquisition. I was trying to find an owners manual so I can find out how much the boat weighs

For what its worth we have a cobia bay boat and it has been great thus far. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles as some bay boats but it does what we need and I have been impressed with it thus far.

i haven't heard anything bad about Cobia boats, all positive from the opinions I've heard.

I would be more concerned about what else on a 17 y.o. boat has went out or what may go out than the business who built it.
None of those folks gonna be much help 20 miles out.
Obviously, theres a buncha 17 yo and older boats on the water... but youre gonna need to pay attention... especially as you're learning the boat's weaknesses.

Really OP, if you don't know your way around boats, pay for a survey or find a buddy that really knows their way around a boat for a full inspection. That is very cheap insurance. More so on a old boat.
