Yet that doesn't means teams don't have multiple players who consistently can reach 100
there are not multiple people who can hit 100 with the majority of pitches they throw. To have that is still very valuable
quote:

Kelly at 99.1, and Rosenthal at 99.
and these guys are still having solid years and rosenthal and chapman have thrown their fastball at a similar rate. Hell, this year, hes thrown his lowest rate of fastballs in his whole career by like 10%
quote:

Players have adapted which is why Chapman went from 40% K rate on his FB to 25%.
or maybe this is a one year blip.

We beat Chris Sale tonight. frick the Red Sox. Hate we blew the lead last night but oh well. Let's win the series tomorrow

ETA I think with Betances in the closer role will do good for our team going forward. Glad joe grew some balls and took the closer roll from chapman

Who said anything about majority of their pitches? Chapman only hits with his FB, Kahnle, Betances, etc can hit 100 with their FB. Several other players can hit 100 with their FB....

Chapman when he came into the league was a 1 in 40 pitcher, now he is more of a 1 in 20 so players are use to seeing that high heat

I'll disagree... They have the best team in baseball this year. They are the favorite

Really the Nationals and Cubs are their biggest competition. I think the Dodgers if healthy are better offensively, defensively, and pitching

this isn't as bold as you think. While the Dodgers are clearly the favorite, the field more likely to win it.

Well I agree but is Kershaw gonna shite the bed like he likes to do in the playoffs or is he gonna be in regular season form? Also look at Yu Darvish playoff stats. He's only pitched in two games but lost both. Also Bellinger is a young kid he might choke under pressure. I know they have hitters all around but I'm not completely sold on them in the playoffs. I could see Washington sneaking by them

Kershaw has been pretty good in the playoffs recently, Yu has two games, one he was great in and one he sucked in. You can't really take much from that.
Also, calling Bellinger a "rookie" he has more experience than Spencer had for the Yankees many years ago

i did

chapman averages 100 and hits it majority of the time. there are guys who can reach 100 but sit 98/99. chapman hits 102/103 and sits 100
quote:

now he is more of a 1 in 20 so players are use to seeing that high heat
they dont see that high heat as frequently with anyone else. and even then, the players we have touched on in this thread, like rosenthal who doesnt throw as hard as chapman and uses his fastball at the same rate as chapman does, is still having a fine season

this season with chapman is most likely a blip that people will look back on as just being a weird season that relievers are prone to have

he also might not

and thats fine. but the only real reason to not be sold on the dodgers in the playoffs is because the baseball playoffs are the most random thing in sport and the best team wins like less than 10% of the time

This might be long but hear me out and tell me if I'm talking out my arse. Kershaw will he pitch regular season form or will he do the shite he is known to do in the playoffs. He did win a clutch game last year I believe but he is known to choke. If he chokes bam that could end it there. Yu Darvish. Looked at his post season pitching. He has only pitched in 2 and lost both starts. He is inexperienced in the playoffs and he could let the pressure get to him. Also been struggling with injuries. Cody Bellinger. Will he stay hot with actually pressure on him? Honestly I'd love to see it because i respect the hell out of that kid as I do with Judge. I hope they are both the future and you can't forget his dad played with the Yankees and I honestly think he might would sign with the evil empire when he is ready to make the big money if he keeps it up. Alex wood having a career year but I honestly don't think he is as good as his record shows. Reminds me of porcello from last year. I know they got hitters everywhere and a damn good pitching staff and I could be completely wrong and wouldn't be mad at all if I am. If we aren't there and they are I'd be pulling for them but I feel they won't ???????

I know it's long but just gonna quote a text I sent to my buddy. We started having a convo on this after I told him about this thread and he agreeed 100 percent with me

You guys have never been the favorites with Kershaw on the mound and he chokes it away?

While I know you use fan graphs exclusively, other sites have him him at 99. Now that is nitpicking but still, I don't have a love of one site.
Now are you really going to argue they don't see high heat as much? When the average velocity has risen each year and every team has a player who can hit 100 mph? They can sit back and totally know what Chapman is going to throw because it is all he can throw.
