Everyone says she should have kept her mouth shut and walked to the next tee. Is that conceding? Or do you have to verbally concede each time? If you have to verbally concede, then yeah moon fricked up, she grabbed her ball before anything could be done about it. I would neither want to win or lose that way, but what could she do?

Technically, once you tee off on the next hole in match play you can't make any rules adjustment.

So in theory she could have gotten to the next tee, but not yet teed off, and still called the lack of concession on her part.

The difference here is that Moon made the assumption the putt was good without even looking at her opponent. She missed the 4 footer and immediately pulled it back to take the practice stroke.

Had Moon missed, looked up at her opponent, and seen the opponent walking to the next tee...my opinion would change on the situation. But Moon assumed concession and entirely too quickly to not be called out on it.

She'll learn. I made the mistake once in a junior match play of giving him a 4 footer that I thought my opponent had to halve a hole. When in fact, I conceded the hole.

Ouch. It happens though. Where it really gets tough is at the club level where strokes are involved in a 2 man team thing. You have 2 opponents getting strokes at different holes and keeping track of who lies what and are they stroking?

I would say 'score' here.

So I'm kind of torn on this one...

At first, I was extremely against her unsportsmanlike behavior. When the pros play match play, it's fairly understood that those 6inch putts are good...You win on talent.

After re-watching the video, the girl (Moon?) who missed the putt gave her competitor only a split second to say "that's good". She essentially thought it was good and dragged it back.

I honestly believe the girl who won didn't even have time to comprehend what was happening, let alone say "that's good" before Moon touched it. You can tell by the shock in her face when she looks back at the camera like "ummmm". Remember now, they are in extra holes. Everything is on the line. I'm assuming the girl who won just expected her to tap it in and move on.

By rule, because she moved that ball before the putt was conceded, it's a penalty. Not to mention, you cannot concede the putt after the fact. The more I think about it, the more I think it was a lapse in judgement on Moon more than an unsportsmanlike like move on the winner.

All very well put.

Even the pros, depending on circumstances, will glance at the opponent before raking one away. Sometimes I think they hear a concession that we don't, so it really makes it look like they just all give them to each other.

I hate the whole thing happened... almost as much as I hate having the yips.

On Tour you putt every damn thing out - even if it is hanging in the lip - you putt it our on Tour - never pick up.

That is because 99% of tour golf is stroke play, NOT MATCH PLAY. In stroke play, no one and nothing can be conceded.

I would like to have a little more context. How were these same putts handled all day? Anyone know? If they have been given all day or tournament then it is pretty crappy she did that.

I personally think it was pretty crappy anyway because she fought to win that way versus letting judges call penalty.

IMO that doesn't matter. I don't care if she gave her 5 footers all day, you can't assume a putt is good because the last one was. This is all on Moon. I have no problem with how it played out.

This is all on Moon. Nobody to blame but herself. Those trashing the girl who won are the ones who will always trash winners because they themselves never win at anything.

It's a competition. Not a friendly match.

This doesn't matter. In extra holes, you should basically expect that you're now putting everything out.

I didn't say it should matter in the outcome. I would just like to know if they were giving each other these putts all day and then the blonde pulled this crap at the end to win. It would show she was a total POS. Even if it is the right thing per the rules.

I think to the overall story this information does matter.

I've given 3 footers all day before. Once we're coming down to the end of the match, those aren't good anymore.

It's a USGA championship. You don't rake it back unless you hear good.

I am not saying you are wrong. I think it would be interesting to the story to know the details. What if these were not given all day? I think it would make the blonde look great. I just think it is a huge hole in the story (not the rules).

Everyone who's played match play events knows that you don't pick it up no matter how short until you hear and confirm that they said "that's good." Moon made a mistake and is not the first nor will she be the last to do it, she just happen to do it at the most critical point in the match.
