These photographs are excellent, and this is a good discussion.
We are planning my son's senior trip, he wants to go do the Grand Circle Route, so we're going to hit this part of the country, as well.
Tentative plan is to drive through to Amarillo, stay there. Then go onto Moab/Arches N.P. the next day. We hope to get off I 40 at a few of these spots, and actually drive on Route 66....Cadillac Ranch is close to Amarillo, and I see from the map, that the MidPoint of Route 66 is in Adrian, Texas.
Current plan has us turning NW at Albuquerque to go to Four Corners. So a possible stop, late morning, at Santa Rosa sounds cool.

Are you in Baton Rouge? Amarillo is OK, but I would just visit Cadillac Ranch and head on to Tucumcari, 90 minutes west. Book a night at the Blue Swallow and tour that part of Rte 66 the next day, staying in Santa Fe or Albuquerque the next night.

Metairie.
Buddy of mine lives in Katy, travels U.S. 287 to his new home in Mancos, Co. He suggested Amarillo as the stopping point, drive times I've found suggest that's nearly 12 hours, don't want to push it.
Also, want to make Moab the next night.

What were your settings for the Blue Swallow Motel night shot and the second Madrid, NM shot (The Truck)?
Thanks if you see this.

Tucumcari
I fly into Amarillo and drive to Tucumcari every two-three months. We have a wind turbine at Mesaland's Community College that I teach a class at.
It was really a special little city. If you go back eat at Del's steakhouse and get the green chile seared steak. Also at the tractor and supply company they have a BBQ shed which is delicious.
Random side note, the Disney movie "Cars" based the town Radiator Springs on Tucumcari. Complete with the TP hotel you can park in!

That being said, I love Santa Fe, and we go often. I should put together a guide to Santa Fe eating and entertainment sometime, as I end up posting the same recs in just about every thread about the place.
Way back when, I hit up the old Bobcat Bite when it was still located south of the city. Haven't been to the newer version in town but I'd imagine that it's lost a bit of the feel that the old place had.
Flagstaff is a great town. Love going there, especially in the summer. It's a great respite from the blast furnace that is summer in Vegas.
Williams, AZ is pretty cool as well. If you're into the old trains, they have one that goes from the town up to the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
ETA: I assume that the classic car museum is still in Santa Rosa, NM. That was an enjoyable stop also.

Sorry, just happen to see this now.
The Blue Swallow shot was 8 sec f/10
The truck was 20 sec f/6.3 and I used my iPhone to light paint the front of truck because there was ZERO light

There is a section of Route 66 that runs thru the older part of Amarillo filled with people driving old cars and diners
just like in the 50's. Walkable and lots of tourist there. Worth the stop to see how people lived back in the day.
