Does not bother me at all. More power to you. I do know, at some point, many will have to come in to have something repaired.
In our area, there are many shops and quick lube places and the assumption is they are cheaper than a dealer. In actuality, their labor rate is not much less or the same as ours. As for oil changes, most of the time we are less than quick lane places or a dollar or two higher.
Call around and ask what the labor rates are and also ask how much an Oil change/tire rotation runs.
You may be in an area where it's less expensive to have your vehicle serviced at a dealership vs a quick lane place.

The service directors make a ton of money
Also, the salesman aren't that bad. The real slimeballs are in finance. I don't know how those guys sleep at night. They can shove their gap insurance up there arse

I'd seriously rather buy another house than another car.
If the experience isn't to your liking, walk out. You aren't required to wait for hours if you don't choose to.
I just find it funny that people want to low ball the dealership then cry about being "gamed." It's a two way game.

I'm not a finance guy, but I've seen enough good ol' baws buying F7,500,000,000s on seven year notes freak the hell out because they have to pay on the vehicle even though it's wrecked because they never got over water.

I figured he was joking about the "fricking people over" line. I understand they have to make a profit, but he has to understand that customers like me, who want to politely minimize that profit, are not "assholes."
He was using the ridiculous idea of "fricking people over" that's been posted in this thread.
Customers expect the salesman to get nothing, the manager to get nothing, the F&I guy to get nothing and the dealership to get minimum, yet complain they are getting "fricked over."

This info is for those who drive GM vehicles and the ones who will drive it until the wheels fall off.
Did you know GM offers Parts and Labor *limited lifetime warranty on products, if installed by a GM dealer, on the following items?
- Altenators
- Starters
- Water Pumps
- Shocks / Struts
- Hub Bearings
- Plug wires
- Ignition Coils
- Injectors
* limited means that majority of dealers will cover the labor too. GM has left that option up to the dealer. We cover Parts and Labor because when a part fails, GM will reimburse us for the part at cost +40%. The 40% profit will offset the labor cost.
Also GM offers ceramic brake pad installation for $99.95 per axle on majority of GM products + you get 1 free replacement set of pads when those wear out. You just pay the labor ($40) to have them installed.

You're close. I picture it as a tug of war over a small pot of money on the table (say 10% of the price) May the better salesman win it. Maybe the car salesman wins it with some and only wins a small portion of it with others - this is why people play this game. Lack of trust. We know any car salesman that says "I promise you, this is the best I can do" is lying the first three times they say it.

I've noticed this in all walks of life. I'm only 29, so I cannot speak for the past, but it seems people want the best of both worlds at all times.
When I purchased my vehicle, I followed the Will Cover method of buying. While I was test driving vehicles, were there a couple guys giving to hard a sell? Yes, but that's kind of to be expected. I drove their vehicle to see if I liked it, so I understand sometimes there's going to be a hard sell. I'll politely listened to what they had to offer, and informed them I was still in the beginning phase of test driving.
At the end of the day, I don't see it as one side fricking over the other side, I see it as a meeting of the minds. He technically has more information than I do, because I don't know their individual dealership policy and such, but I did enough research to know about what the car was worth and what people were paying for it. I went to a couple of dealerships, heard what they had to offer, and bought the car I wanted at a price I feel good about. Had I been a more aggressive purchaser would I saved 5 or 10 dollars a month throughout the deal? Maybe, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

It usually is. Many times it takes a MGR to go below a certain amount.

Generally just going off of word of mouth and not doing a lot of research.
If your salesman is making $50 off the sale, he isn't going to work with you.

Can I recommend doing the deal over the phone
Have done this. Takes even longer cause it takes an hour or more to get a call back with the answer to any question.
I don't understand why salesman can't have the authority to negotiate the price themselves. That would cut out SO MUCH of the bullshite. Tell the salesman, "this car cost us $15,000. Anything above that is profit and where your commission comes from. If you sell the car for $15,000 you don't make commission."

I'm in the process of buying a new or slightly used vehicle. I've decided on an SUV. I've looked at internet prices. Are you saying I can avoid all the bull shite and negotiate thru email instead of in person? I'd rather not know who my car salesman is as long as I get my price. They need to sell and I want a deal. I've found poor customer service at three of the four dealerships around town.

The entire car buying process is fricked. Way too many scum bags involved.

Well to be fair, not everyone understands sales in any shape or form. At all. Car salesmen have to deal with everyone from business executives to kids who barely have a pot to piss in and not enough brain to figure out which side of it actually holds the piss.
Reasonable people know that the dealership has to make money to stay open and they're going to make as much as they can. The issue I have with them is the car salesmen are often not very smart, not very knowledgeable about the product, and have shitty attitudes. The good ones know the product reasonably well, can read the customer reasonably well, and won't feed someone like me a massive pile of bullshite while negotiating.
When I get mad with them is when they start trying to keep me there. I'm going to make you, as the salesmen, make a decision on whether or not it's worth it to you to either take the margin/commission that I've put on the table, or keep the car while my money and I are still on the market elsewhere. It's fricking simple. You think you'll get more for it? Good, go get it. Call me back if you change your mind. Simple as that. That is the single decision that you as a car salesmen ever have to make. fricking make it and let's both move on. I go try to find another car, you go try to find another customer.

Some dealerships have an internet department. From experience, it was a lot easier and smoother than going into the dealership and scouting. When you pull up, your vehicle is ready to test drive.

You can avoid wasting an entire day by getting the price agreed upon before you show up. That won't stop them from trying to screw you over. You still need to be prepared to walk away.

I spent roughly a week between counter-offering Park Place and Sewell Lexus when I was buying my RC 350 F Sport.
I ended up with a great deal. $4000 off plus Lexus cash and I did my own financing.

How do these rules change(if it all) for a used car?
Looking at getting a 17 slightly used car in next few months. Seen a ton online with under 10,000 miles.
