In 1988 I was stressed about graduating and other assorted issues. I was an avid basketball fan, enough so that Daddy Dale singled me out after a game now and then or in passing for conversation. He hugged me after we beat UK in Atlanta to go to the Final Four in 86. I mean , I missed one home game in a nine year period.

Anyhow I wrote Dale a letter seeking guidance. He responded IMMEDIATELY ( to my frat house lol) with a letter inviting me to come to his office, which I did. When I got there he made some introductions, gave me some numbers to call and later , wrote me a letter of recommendation.

The man was/ is a Prince, a Man among Men. He is compassionate and wise and cares deeply about other human beings.

In 2011 I took my 7 y/o granddaughter to her 1st LSU game with her mom, she's a grad too, they live in Birmingham. It was homecoming so we went to the parade, my daughter's sorority house tea, we spent the whole day on campus. She got her face painted, got some souvenirs, then when we went up the ramp of the PMAC to see the band come down, it was 5 deep, I tried to hold her up, but she couldn't see. A guy in front of me turned around and saw the struggle, I told him it was her 1st game, he cleared a path to the rail so she saw it all.

We were playing W. Kentucky, we sat in the north end zone next to the band and the Golden Girls, she loved the game, she was into it. In the 4th quarter it was getting chilly, the Tigers were well ahead and she was shivering a little. I told her we could go since she was cold, she said "please let me see the Tigers score one more time". We stayed and a few minutes later they scored right in front of us.

The next morning at breakfast she was still excited, I asked her what was the best part, the parade, the treats, face painting, the band, the Golden Girls, the game?"

She said "winning, of course". A Tiger was born.
