Advocate article
Hate to see her go, but at least the softball threads should be a little quieter now with less rabble-rousing....

Wasn't she supposed to be the next big star?

She won a ton of awards in high school and set records, but for some reason never got a ton of playing time as a freshman, but she likely could have been a starter next year if she had stayed.

She had a little group of fanatics who littered the softball threads bashing the coach for not playing Dawson enough. I'm eagerly awaiting their take on the situation.

I don't follow softball except as a casual fan, so I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I never understood why she didn't play more over Sanchez and Quinn at the least. Apparently from reading the SB threads, I was not alone. Seems like a personality conflict with the staff. Dawson out hit them with ease and was an excellent base runner with serious speed. Was her fielding that bad? The team was clearly offensively challenged with a few exceptions.

As a "fanatic" that follows the team pretty closely I will say that although I think BT is a fine coach, she does have some pretty significant weaknesses. She obviously has brought LSU to levels not seen before and deserves a ton of credit for that, but I think these weaknesses are going to keep her from achieving the highest level.
She certainly has favorites. She is willing to give players like Hoover and Wall much more rope that she would another pitcher. Smith had 3 straight complete game SCORELESS outings and in the next game gives up a big hit and we hardly see her again the rest of the year. This considering Hoover had some struggles and at times couldn't pitch as well because of her knee. And, now Smith is transferring. Hoover lost more of her share of games and came in and gave up big runs on WP's, yet, BT again gives her more rope. Corbello is leaned on her sophomore year and forced to pitch a lot of innings and then the next year, you hardly see her. It is a very frustrating situation and one that I think will catch up with this program... and one that might already be hitting the program.
Similar things happen in the lineup, but will say, not quite as much. BT could have kept Dawson happy starting her in midweek games and letting her pitch hit more when games had been decided. I think there are other very questionable moves by the coach that appear to us on the outside as special treatment given to certain players. I mean, its pretty obvious to the casual objective observer.
AS I said, BT is a good coach. But I think she needs to think a few more moves ahead at times than she does and perhaps she wouldnt lose some of these really talented players.
Although not "significant" losses, Smith and Dawson are very good players that were needed next year and the years to follow.

My take was always that there must have been some behind the scenes stuff going on that we weren't privy to. That is the coach's prerogative, but there were people here who just couldn't let it go ...

Kim Mulkey had something to do with this.

Walljasper and Hoover are significantly better than Corbello. I don't understand the argument here.
Every coach does have their favorites but I'm willing to bet you there was a lot more that went on behind the scenes then what you see in the dugout.

I would speculate it was a done deal long before the transfer according to those in the know here

For those of us who don't follow softball... bow or no bow?

Also coming from someone who is extremely close to the program and as someone who knows the entire staff and almost all managers and trainers and a lot of the players on a personal level. Beth Torina on the outskirts definitely looks like she plays favorites but she does significantly favor kids who work the hardest. We have had players transfer over the years for a couple reasons and many didn't see the time they wanted exactly for that reason. I'm not saying it applies to this specific situation but for all future recruits coming in, if you don't put in the work then don't bother coming. The staff doesn't put up with it at all.
I won't give names but a few players were constantly dismissed from practice this year for not coming prepared and because of their effort
