About the same as last year. 3-4 losses.

Defense takes a step back after losing just about every tackle from the 2016 D.

Offense will be ok but I don't expect to light up the scoreboard due to poor pass blocking, mediocre qb, new WRs.

Schedule is brutal. 5 SEC road games. Season opener away from TS against an experienced team (17 upperclassmen starters).

Just take a look at all the players drafted last year.

That should give you a good indication of what you might expect.

The bar should be set for at least a ten win regular season but I'm expecting something like 9-3 or possibly even 8-4.

I agree. I'm not particularly optimistic but neither am I much pessimistic.
Those camps that are completely one or the other would be the way they are no matter who we had hired, fired, recruited, scheduled played or didn't play.
Although, I am hoping for the best, as I see no benefit to complaining and bitching about everything.

I'm thinking 9-3 in Coach Binder's first year would be a success.

Since A) neither of these actions on your part will have any effect on the outcome, and B) there's no way you can know in advance what the outcome will be, why not just do whichever of your options you want and not worry about whether it's right or wrong?

And by the way, I have no idea how we'll do this year, either. I could easily see us winning every game except Alabama or losing 5+.

I think 8-4, but the future is what I am afraid of. Few will admit it but if your honest you can clearly see that talent level has and is falling off considerably. Especially in the offensive and defensive lines. But its clear know that the talent has dropped at the skill positions as well. Orgeron gets all of this praise as a recruiter but where is the results? If anything they should be reeling in stud lineman but that just isn't happening. I see a good year in 2017 but after that things will get rough.

I'm going to be blunt, I have no confidence for LSU to win more than 9 games total with Etling at QB. I've been saying this for months, but one of the younger guys needs to get the go ahead. If it's Scott or Narcisse at the very least you get another rushing threat to confuse defenses like Bama, Auburn, and UF. Ed O had good things to say about Narcisse after the spring game (I didn't see much praise about the other guys), noting that he just needs to learn the offense. If it's true about Brennan being around 190 right now (from some poster here), then he should also get a chance. Strong arm, accurate, decently mobile, and played in a wide open offense. With true freshmen like Jake Bentley, Jalen Hurts, Shea Patterson, and Jacob Eason each starting multiple games at different SEC schools last year, I don't see why LSU can't do the same. These guys not onky got year one experience, but all of them will be very successful in the years to come. I don't want LSU to fall even further behind. I don't want LSU to try to run an offense in 2018 with no Guice, no Clapp, likely no Teuhema, and a brand new young QB. LSU has amazing talent to throw to, we have amazing rushing threats, we just need a playmaker under center.

Etling had 11 passing TDs in 11 games last year. He doesn't have a cannon like Mett or experienced NFL level returning starter WRs like Beckham and Landry, so expecting anything other than his continued mediocrity is setting yourself up for disappointment. I doubt Etling is still the starter by midseason.

Im actually enjoying this too. Its the first year in a while that I have been tuning in to sports radio, reading articles on the team, etc just to get a feeling on outside thoughts. In the past few years, I had lost early season interest in such things since we all knew exactly what was going to happen with Les just going through the same motions. Im excited to at least be on a new ride!

Great RB, excellent OL, good defense, and a Senior QB should equal 11-2!

Talking football ?

Losses to Florida, Alabama, and likely Tennessee or Arkansas.

I'll buy 9-3 .

I don't either and that is why I'm looking forward to this upcoming season. I knew what to expect and what I was getting from a Miles led team. That's why my interest in LSU football was tapering off. It became boring and stale to me.

At least this season is a breath of fresh air.

I agree OP. Part of me feels like we will go through some growing pains with so many new guys being counted on. But, part of me is very excited for the potential of a lot of the young guys to get their shot. If I was forced to make a prediction, I would say that the defense will get better as the year progresses and will be playing really well by the UF game. The offense will have some growing pains but eventually be pretty efficient. Looking forward to it either way.

I'm assuming you're referring to Football.

My expectations are to see an offense that keeps defenses off balance with Canada's game plans & adjustments. On defense, I trust Aranda will have them prepared and ready to play. Therefore, LSU should be in a position to win the big SEC games. Playing FL, Bama, & TN on the road is going to be tough. Aub at home is not a gimme. I like LSU's talent but there's too many unknowns to say they are at championship level this season.

TL/DR - 9-3

The rational way to approach football is to not have any expectations and see what happens. Take one game at a time. For damn sure don't get wrapped up in preseason polls. Preseason polls are just fantasy to fill space for publications or air time for TV.

Hard to get a feel on LSU's success in 2017. Senior QB, Etling is the key, not coaching.
Aranda will have the defense sound. Canada will dial up the right plays. Orgeron will manage the game, and not interfere with Aranda or Canada.

Can Etling think on his feet? That's the $64k question.
If Etling can manage the QB position, LSU will win.
