Exactly. If it's true, he might be in way over his head and his parents might not even be aware of it. I know I did stupid shite at 15 but CNN never emailed me to talk about it. How would one tell mom and dad that the President retweeted my animated gif and now CNN is emailing me wanting to have a chat or they will reveal my identity to the world? frick that.

Yep. I can see a 15 year old pretending this didn't happen instead of telling his parents. I have a feeling he won't have a choice by tomorrow, though. Interested to see how his parents handle this now.

One summer in college, I helped out at a local retail store and the high school kids said it all the time.
The irony of today's society trying to identify what language is non-PC or "hate speech" is that people, especially kids, now know exactly what buttons to push to get a rise out of others. They use it to troll for shock value or sound edgy more than anything.
This kid might be a POS, but he might also just be trying to be an e-badass who believed online anonymity would shield him from real world repercussions.

If the Supreme Court ruling on Westboro Baptist (8-0 ruling) told you anything it was that the First Amendment maintains that free speech, ESPECIALLY OFFENSIVE SPEECH, must be protected.
