There is a petition in New Orleans to change the charter to restore the monuments. It was a headline on Times Picayune yesterday but is buried today. I do not live in New Orleans but I would sign it if I could. Needs only 10,000 signatures to put on the ballot.

I would be much more likely to sign a petition to keep anyone from posting anymore threads about the monuments on the OT.

Nola dot com article

The nola article doesn't even link the petition. I believe it is a handwritten one.

Is there a petition to improve government spending oversight, allocate funds for street repair, and increase trade school presence in the inner city?

I'd sign that.

So who would we complain to about the city spending tax payers money to restore them? This is getting confusing

From the NOLA.com article:

quote:

The petition, by law, needs 10,000 signatures from registered voters in New Orleans to allow its supporters to introduce the proposed changes. They would then require a majority vote at the polls to become law.

History shows that online petitions actually work.

Spend MORE money to return the friggin statues? You've got to be kidding me. The money could be better spent elsewhere ... like crime cameras in the french quarter!

Not to mention, just about no one at all wants the liberty monument returned. The petition should have just stuck with the protection for any statute erected over 50 years and been done with it. NOLA needs to work on their issues from big to small and the statues are not in the first 1000.

We took down the monuments because to please them, but yet crime has increased in the past month. #PutEmBackUp

Don't like 'em?

Don't read 'em.

Problem solved.
