What are your thoughts on Sharia?
a bit of the drama queen aren't you?
I didn't say that. I did however say that I'm with the only person dying being the drunk driver. I'd say it was more of negligence than capital punishment. 46 MPH with a restrained passenger is ridicules, but you make it sound like the officer hand cuffed him and just threw him over board and drive off. Should the officer face punishment? of fricking course, but you're really trying too hard to make a point that isn't there.

quote:for budget reasons i can understand why they cant always have two officers together, but to have someone whom you think is drunk, someone that you arent watching, handcuffed in the back of a boat as you speed off at 47mph on a lake, is the peak of negligence.
My question would be more geared toward policy. Why would they not have two officers there? This officer, obviously could have just put the boy in cuffs and waited for another officer or two to show up.
there HAS to be someone else in the boat watching the kid in a situation like that.
the definition of "manslaughter"...
"the crime of killing a human being without malice aforethought, or otherwise in circumstances not amounting to murder."
if his actions dont fit that, then its not a real thing, its not a real crime, its meaningless.

Gonna reiterate my view that there should be a special prosecutor at the state level for criminal cases involving cops so it doesn't go to the local DA who relies on them to make a living.
Seems like a reasonable step, and a good idea.

you confuse tough guy with refusing to play the PC game. Sorry if you're threatened by my lack of metorsexualism but "Tough Guy" is the furthest thing I am from.

Sorry I don't sugar coat things for you all's tenders ears/eyes. I got no need for ignorant thugs that can't get it through their 3rd grade educated heads that there are rules and laws for a reason. I personally don't think they should be living at my and your financial expense. I'm not looking to win any humanitarian awards. But I also know its fantasy because there are too many people out there who feel sorry for these kind of societal failures.

Break the law, drown. Snipes law and order paradise.

IF you were going to stretch it that, negligent homicide seems more reasonable.

Why are their special laws for when the officer is the victim but not if they are the one committing the act?
They should be held to a higher standard.
They should be held to a higher standard.

He might as well had. I don't think life in prison is too harsh of a sentence.

Yes they should be. No argument from me
but "held to a higher standard " doesn't mean just make up laws and don't worry about things like innocent until proven guilty either.

I will back off this comment - I read the longer article where the trooper only had two hours of training to work on the water and admitted that the training was inadequate.
In 2011, Missouri merged our water patrol with Highway patrol. Consequently, a lot of boys with little water experience ended up working at the Lake. Shocking that no one saw anything like this coming.

That's just evil. The officer never went into the water to get him. Extending a pole out for the guy to grab when he knew he was handcuffed.
Ok. This clearly wasn't a training issue. frick that guy.

Yeah.
And besides. Exactly how much "training" is really required to know you should properly life vest a guy. They said they got a 2 week course.
I'm guessing in the 2 weeks, they covered fricking life vests.
