I recognize you can't wait to see how it affects the play at first bit if it doesn't interfere then how can you can call the runner back?

How else would you penalize a team for breaking a rule?

Because he called time

To deter it from happening in the first place
You can ruin someone's career with a side like that (not sayin that was slaughter's intentions)

You would just do it every time in that situation if that wasnt the case.

Yep dumb as frick
Because you almost ruined a double play , no run . Just make it an automatic double play and the runner should be ejected

If he called time than the guy at first is safe.

Ump called time the moment it happens. Meaning before the run scored.

You can't slide a foot to the right into the guy's leg
It's an actual rule
Sucks, but it's true

I know the interference rule in the MLB is an automatic double-play, but does the runner, if there is one on another base advances, does he get called back as well?

His back was touching the bag...can't slide to outside of bag?

They wanted real repercussions for it to prevent people from doing that because players can get hurt, so they made it that way

And Pap was out at first whether he beat the throw or not.

I know the rule and recognize it was the right call...
I'm questioning why the rule is to bring back the runner from home? Just eject the player and call it a double play...

It was obvious he was trying to slide into him
You can't do that anymore

Rule is to protect the 2nd baseman/shortstop. In slow mo u can see him target the leg on the SS.
Good call. Stupid play made out of frustration. Cost us the tie and momentum.
Worst is our shitty fans throwing cups on the field afterwards.

That I can't answer and understand the frustration and agree

The entire play is dead as soon as the interference occurs. It makes the hitter and the runner out.
I think had Smith somehow scored BEFORE the interference, the run would have counted.
