Saving $2,000 a Year by Eating Samples at Costco and Grocery Stores

LINK
Excerpt of link:
"My boyfriend and I eat a meal of Costco samples approximately three times a week. We work within walking distance and do purposely use this as a money saving technique. I don't see anything wrong with it. We pay for an executive membership and part of that membership is sample offerings. We are always respectful of other shoppers and only double dip if a new sample lady arrives. It is not the most healthful meal but our financial situation is not very healthy either. You do what you got to do. I monitor our budget closely and I estimate we save $100 to $140 a month using this method at Costco. On the weekends we use the same technique at regular grocery stores, for example Whole Foods, Central Market and HEB, saving an additional $40 to $80 dollars a month. We do not live near a Publix but I hear they have excellent sample offerings."
Anyone else do this or would consider doing this?

The only way you're saving $100-$140/month by skipping 3 meals a week is if the alternative is fast-food or something similar.
If you prep your meals in advance, your "savings" make eating samples far less attractive.

they obviously do not value their time whatsoever...

To each their own, but I'd like to know the rationale for the savings numbers.

why am i getting a downvote there? if you waste hours scavenging grocery stores, that is not an efficient use of time. if you're THAT worried about saving money, use that time to work another job. if they're each wasting 2 hours 3x a week to save $2000, that's not efficient. that's over 600 hours combined. (52wks x 2 people x 2h scavenging x 3x/wk).
get to work, slackers.

If you have to take a lunch break, it makes sense. What are they supposed to do, go work somewhere else for 30 minutes a day?

again i submit that if you're trying to save money that hard, there are more efficient ways of doing it.

She is talking about saving money and then mentions Whole Foods and Central Market in the next sentence? If money is that right, she has no business going there to shop. If she is just going there to sample then I see ethical boundaries.

This almost reminds me of a reality show I saw where a woman chose to cook lasagna in the dishwasher to not have to turn on the oven. Her rationale was that the dishwasher got the same temperature she needed to so why not double dip. Of course there are a million reasons, soggy and nasty lasagna being only one.
The effort people go through to save a few cents here and there is astounding.

Went to a funeral this weekend. I was told that they have trouble with freeloaders who do not know the deceased hitting the lounge and eating the food.
Sure enough, they had to run some people out!

That's pretty tacky. Knew a guy once who didn't mind getting a to-go box from weddings, engagement parties, banquets, etc., He'd help himself to whatever.
We all went to some engagement party that had a candy buffet with little bags for everyone to take a few pieces of their favorites. Thought his bag was going to bust open.
So trashy to make a scene taking extras.

"Thought his bag was going to bust open.

Had a nephew and his wife eating with a group of us. He and his wife decided not to order brunch.
Kids eat free and both of them ate off their kid's plate.

What about stealing the small boxes of cereal at a hotel breakfast and bringing them home? Is that cheap?

When I was in college, we would hit up sams on weekends and the samples would be our lunch.
The $5 we saved would buy a 6 pack of natty light. Priorities

my guess is that this is just two people who make poor decisions. I don't have a clue what happens in a Whole Foods Bc I don't want to spend that much on groceries. These two could learn how to cook, shop at Aldi, and start making good life decisions
