Obama's promised student loan forgiveness program, another check his mouth wrote that his arse can't cash

quote:

Danielle Ramos' student-debt nightmare was supposed to be over.

Like thousands of others who studied at failed for-profit colleges, she was promised by the U.S. Education Department under President Barack Obama that her federal loans would be forgiven by now. But as the weeks tick by with no reprieve, the 30-year-old college student fears the financial burden will force and her 4-year-old son to move back with her parents.

This was a terrible program. It needs to be abolished. With that said, anyone who is on it must be grandfathered in. It's not right to pull the rug from under people after they have been part of a financial program.

If you're dumb enough to attend a for profit college, you should have to eat your mistake. I fully sympathize with people with crushing debt for worthwhile career pursuits and degrees. Devry? No.

How about being a responsible human being and not shitting out a bastard child you can't afford

fricking idiots. No one takes responsibility.

I work 2 damn jobs and pay 3000 a month just in student loans trying to get them paid off in the next 3 years. But thats because i am responsible and take responsibility for my actions, fulfill my commitmnets and don't have children out of wedlock

fricking entitled arse lazy generation

Perhaps the biggest culprit for the student loan problem now.

TheAtlantic

quote:

Between 2000 and 2014, the number of students holding education debt doubled to 42 million, their total debt outstanding quadrupling to over $1 trillion. In 2000, there was only one for-profit institution among the 25 colleges and universities where students held the most student-loan debt. In 2014, there were 13, and University of Phoenix topped the list. The amount of debt owed by those attending for-profit colleges has grown from $39 billion in 2000 to $229 billion in 2014—which is more attributable to increases in the rate of borrowing at those schools than to increases in enrollment.

Paying money back that she borrowed might be a burden for her?

Hmmmm...if it is a burden for me to pay my home loan, can the government forgive that load and I won't have to pay it off?

Those for-profit-colleges are fricking terrible... but again, the root of the problem is the fricking government guaranteeing student loans to every person who wants them without limit.

This program caught my wife's eye a few years back because her job would in theory make her eligible. I told her then, "Do we look like two people who the government is going to let skate on their school loans?" meaning two married white people with kids who have good jobs. We are the payors not the payees in society. She said she fit the criteria.

Well she pre-applied this year and guess what - I was right. Her particular type of loan was disqualified.

So frick it. Burn it down. If I have to pay so does everyone else.

Bad idea from the get go (Thanks, Obama), but there should be a way for those who had already started the process of being repaid to get what was offered at the time.

This board talks about other federal programs that aren't financially feasible in the long run and need to be eliminated, but where current beneficiaries shouldn't be punished. This is a similar situation. The program was stupid from the start, but if the government offered it at the time and people had applications in process, they should be able to follow through.

Dear goodnees.

1. No one made you go to college
2. No one made you get pregnant / where is the dad?
3. Get a 2nd job, live poor, etc like i had to and many others out of college.

I recently paid off all my student loans so i have no sympathay for these people.

Obama promised a lot of shite, Sweetie. You're just going to have to deal with his lies like the rest of us.

i went to film school, but worked through it. couldn't believe there were as many people also in film school taking out student loans for a liberal arts degree they'd never make money with.

For clarity, this is Obama's For Profit college forgiveness program, not the Bush "work for the government/non-profit" one.

This is what happens when the government distorts the market with easily accessible money. College has become "big business " and the government fed the student loan bubble. When this bubble bursts it ain't gonna be pretty.

One of our children attended a for profit and if I knew what I have since learned his shadow would have never fallen upon that campus. The irony, the Department of Ed knew how poor this school was but failed to notify folks like me who could have had the opportunity to make an informed decision.

We are not a family of uneducated, slackers. His loans no longer exist as they were paid off. He has served his country in the military and continues to serve as a civilian.

Hold me responsible, fine, but hold predatory for profits for their share of the responsibility. They aren't just cheating me but you likewise as you are also paying the freight!!!

I can't believe that most of you didn't see thorough Obama's ruse. If he could get every American kid a 'free' college education, where do you think the minimum wage, or entry level workers come from?

You're correct. She should just tell them to pay their debts.

If students entered the program that should be considered an agreement. Would you want someone going back on your agreement?

If the government can't uphold their end of the agreement then why should the student uphold theirs to pay it back?
