I have watched all the major series over the past 25 years. IF you rank them by cast, story, acting, setting and writing, it is not even close

The series explored so many angles of a story and made you use your imagination. It also gave you a front story but was about so much more. Series about characters are always the best.

I understand it is not for everybody and that the story itself did not lay everything out on a silver platter but the story and ending was brilliantly written even though so many were confused by it.

I love lost, but no it's not. The first 3 years the writers spent their time writing themselves into a corner because they had no idea how long the show would last. Not completely their fault.

The final three they spent their time trying to write themselves out of all the problems they had caused. Overall I think they did a good job considering the fact they had no idea when the show was ending, but it is not the best written show ever.

No shite, because it was a goddamn mess.

It's why Hollywood pays good story-tellers real money - to tell coherent stories with coherent story arcs and believable actions of characters.

Anybody can go "Days of Our Lives" on us - and LOST did that in spades.

I honestly thought the last episode would be "and then I woke up!" high school paper ending (and it kinda was the ending of LOST - it was all a dream!

Lost is the laziest writing of any modern popular show because nothing had to be thought out - they could just make up whatever shite as time went on and never explain anything.

Nothing EVER had to really reconnect to previous premises.

Breaking Bad needed to have a structure, shite needed to be explained...The Wire, etc.

You couldn't just write some Gilligan Island with the Young and the Restless meets the Phantom bullshite.

I'm the biggest LOST fan on this site, and this is ridiculous. There are much better written shows than LOST. Is it one of the smartest and most ambitious, yes? Best written? There really weren't any scenes I can remember that I thought were spectacularly written.

Why LOST is great is for its scope, characters, and constantly throwing curve balls that change the formula. It was one of the first shows that said "pay attention or get the frick out". It's great, but it's not spectacularly written.

It's the most fun I ever had watching a series as it unfolded live, not binging, and that experience will never be topped.

Someone should start a thread listing all the Lost storylines that end up going nowhere.

Even though I hated the ending, I have to go with Dexter as one of the best series. Just my .02

I watched Lost when it came out and I got the feeling the writers only planned for 1 season. Like they assumed the show sound be cancelled.

But it didn't get cancelled and the writers were left scrambling to figure out wtf the show was about. They seemed to be flying by the seat of their pants after the first season.

Written?

No.

One of the most entertaining ever?

Yes, the acting was superb, even through the uneven years of writing.

I'll get blasted for this but I just couldn't stand the last few seasons. I binge watched the entire show, but when it came to the last season, I don't know what happened but I just couldn't finish it. It was an entertaining series but far far from being the best written.

There's a pretty significant difference of opinion between those that watched it live and those that binged it later. If you watched it live and spent a week between each episode over analyzing it with others, you think there's a ton of problems even though you still like it. If you binge it you tend to think it's great because you never did a deep dive on each episode exposing you to potential issues.

I punched out when the scary monster was in the jungle season 1.

Not only did they survive a plane crash on a deserted island, but this one happens to be the one island with a scary tree shaking monster that you can't see yet.

I heard it got better, but I could never suspend disbelief enough. I should probably rewatch it as a bubblegum sci fi show where literally anything is possible.

I love LOST and it's probably in my top 5 best TV series but it is not the best. It might have been had the writers not stumbled around in the darkness trying to avoid the conjectures of its fervent fan base. To me the best TV series has to be Game of Thrones even if the final season doesn't live up to expectations which is doubtful given its consistency to date.

The ending was a lame, lazy cop out.
