Alan Dershowitz: Trump’s bluff: Perfectly legal 'Corrupt motive' is a slippery slope

Alan Dershowitz: Trump’s bluff: Perfectly legal
Now that President Trump has tweeted that he didn’t tape James Comey, the anti-Trump zealots are accusing him of witness intimidation.
This is most the absurd of the many absurd charges leveled against Trump by those out to get him without regard to the law.
Trump’s bluff was calculated to get Comey to tell the truth. How can that be witness intimidation? If it were, Abraham Lincoln would have gone to prison rather than the White House. As a young lawyer, he, too, bluffed a witness into telling the truth.
quote:
Alan Dershowitz: 'Corrupt motive' is a slippery slope as the criterion for prosecuting a president
My academic and political colleagues who insist that President Trump has obstructed justice point to his allegedly "corrupt motive" in firing former FBI Director James Comey after telling him that he "hoped" he would end his investigation of retired Gen. Mike Flynn.
They concede – as Comey himself did – that the president has the constitutional authority to fire the director and to order him to end (or start) any investigation, just as he has the authority to pardon anyone being investigated. But they argue that these constitutionally authorized innocent acts become criminal if the president was "corruptly motivated."
This is a dangerous argument that no civil libertarian should be pressing. Nor would they be pressing it if the shoe were on the other foot.
If Hillary Clinton had been elected and Republicans were investigating her for asking the attorney general to describe the investigation of her as a "matter" rather than a "case," my colleagues would be arguing against an expansive view of existing criminal statutes, as they did when Republicans were demanding that she be locked up for espionage. The same would be true if Bill Clinton or former Attorney General Loretta Lynch were being investigated for his visit to her when she was investigating his wife's misuse of email servers.

Whoa...that is way too much logic and facts for the libtards to handle in one post...why you so mean?

The Dems are chasing their tales trying to harass Trump...while His Policy is moving forward. They 'cry wolf' at every instance of a Trump 'troll', and the end result that their cries become powerless.
Looks like we'll be getting a new Supreme Court Justice in short order; more screams of 'wolf' from the Dems...another 'Gorsuch' Justice.

I guess the lib's have a different meaning for the word "Hope"
"Hope & Change" makes more sense now... Hope is a corrupt motive' and is a slippery slope. Pretty much sums up Barry's presidency.

Poor Alan Dershowitz, pretending to know more about the law than the likes of constitutional scholars John Cusack and Rob Reiner.

If Trump's bluff worked, then Trump lied about 2 major questions. It's that simple.

Dershowitz is such an attention whore, and please remember he helped get OJ off and freed Klaus von Bulow, both murderers guilty as sin. That should go without saying, but if you read the first article, where he compares himself to Lincoln and relates their respective bluffs concerning witnesses they got to recant on the stand, he fails to relate that to Comey. He starts out by saying "@real’s bluff was calculated to get Comey to tell the truth," and he later implies Comey was being "mendacious," but he fails to explain why any of that was a concern, much less how Comey contradicted himself "by spilling his guts" like one of their witnesses breaking down on the stand.

Becareful because Goldennugget isn't going to be happy that Dershowitz (a Jew) has once again stood up to back Trump. This is going to throw Goldennugget into a tailspin.

I like how the bar for Trump has been lowered so much, you guys now applaud when his actions are deemed "technically legal".
"Welp! It's douch-ey. It's irresponsible. It's a huge waste of time. But hey! It's not illegal. Hurrayyy!! MAGA!! Trump is the best "

It's pretty simple if they want to get Trump for obstruction, they have to find bribery, intimidation, kickbacks, self dealing or any other kind of WC crimes as those are self explanatory as far as intent goes which is the main element of obstruction.
Trump will never be impeached for obstruction when the only thing that happened was using his constitutional power to fire an FBI director after he refused to clarify an ongoing narrative playing out in the public square that he started himself.

Heck it wasn't even much of a bluff.
"James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"
But it sure did call Comey out as a leaker which has been proved true.
