The suit later revealed that Depp spent $75million to purchase 14 residences in the South of France, $18million to purchase and remodel a 150-foot yacht, splashed out $30,000 each month on wine and had a fleet of at least 45 luxury vehicles.
Other costs included Depp's full-time staff of 40 employees that cost him $300,000 per month, $150,000 on 24/7 security for himself and his two children, a Gulfstream GV which set him back $200,000 every month and the $4million he put up to fund a friend's independent music label, Unison.
There has to be an entire economy that surrounds rich celebrities that don't know how to value labor

I don't get art. Why in the hell would you spend millions of dollars for some douchebag's finger paintings? That's just the dumbest of all the things.
Because he can probably turn around and sell all of them for a huge profit. Art appreciates.

Sounds like he's not into flipping art, though. Looks like he's worried to have to sell.

How much do you think he dropped on his tomb in St Louis Cemetery?
More then I care to think about. Sheesh you could probably live a year on what that thing cost.

Johnny Depp to manager on his financial situation
I can't say that I wouldn't do the same, or worse.
If I were in his situation you'd probably be seeing my blimp over Tiger Stadium, displaying "COME AT ME BRO" in brightly lit letters.
And if you passed by Sonic, you'd notice my solid gold El Camino parked there with a hot tub full of Golden Girls in the back.

I agree with you on this one, art isn't a bad investment unless it is new stuff. The Warhol stuff will only go up in value as long as he is willing to part with it when the need arises.
As for the spending habits, how do you have 40 people on payroll making 100k a year? I understand managers, advisors and even chefs but anyone else could be had for way less money than 100k a year.

He could be swimming in cash if he sold half of his art collection and dialed back his spending by 60%.

Buying 18 houses all over France fricked him the most

You're assuming they all get paid $100,000/year. If one guy gets paid $250,000, three other guys might make $50,000, no?

Well there you go. Got to have multiple homes in LA.
I'm going to assume he's an idiot.

Beat me to it. I've always liked Depp as an actor but a lot of people don't realize that beyond his eccentricity, weird style, and money is just a greasy kid from the streets that made it big. He's basically a rich Pony Boy

Not saying it isn't ridiculous spending but that is an average of $90k per year per person.
I would assume being as high profile as he is, his agents are paying payroll taxes as to avoid the IRS so assume it to be closer to an average of $70k per.
If this includes managers, etc (and just salary not commissions / percentages) you have housekeepers around $30k, chefs around $125k+ (private chefs get big pay), managers around $250-300K.
And it doesn't say "wages", it says "costs him" indicating pay, plus others things. He probably buys them all Christmas presents (the Vanderbilts at the Biltmore use to buy everyone on staff children's entire Christmas list every year!), plus room and board that lives on the property, and probably vehicle useage. Not too mention any work related equipment / needs that person may have like the lawn crew that is probably HUGE for all the places he has.
Just spitballing here. You can make even some of the most outrageous things make sense if you piece them out.

First post on TD where I've needed to go out and buy glasses just to read it.

Pretty scary that $75 million would just bring him back to even with his creditors.
They should have an actors 30 for 30 version of Broke.

He's in that long list of celebs who dropped out of high school and played in garage bands eating mayonnaise sandwiches leaving Kentucky and Florida for Los Angeles.
It's no coincidence that Depp starred in Tom Petty's video Into the Great Wide Open...except Depp didn't wait until he finished high school.

I would love to know just what he pays in property taxes and insurance in a year. Has to be north of 10 million

No, he had it right. Rue McClanahan and Betty White in a hot tub, downing corn dogs.
