Mainieri: If Eric Walker's bullpen goes well tomorrow, he'll start game 2...Poche' to the bullpen in that case

Yeah, I'm sure practice will decide this.

Fact is, Walker would have been perfect against FSU (as the lead the nation in walks) but the game is too important to mess around.

If we face Oregon State, it will be Poche.

Outside of love for Poche, there is no real argument that Walker isn't your number 2 starter.

Missing this part of the story though.

Paul says that plan is now a bit up in the air. Walker felt sore after sim game Tuesday night. May need extra day or two

I like it. I would use Poche as a lefty arm out of the pen all tourney long. That's really all this pitching staff is missing.

This was a necessary decision, IMO. You can't ignore the differences in effectiveness, control, and frankly the ability to handle the pressure between the two.

In his two postseason outings combined, Walker is 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA in 15.2 innings with one walk and 16 strikeouts.

This wasn't a hard decision for PM

Its our best bet to win this damn thing. Throw our two hottest guys games 1 and 2. Then poche with our staff behind him against a fourth pitcher (oregon st's fifth pitcher) ..........odds ill take any day.

Why would Poche go to the bullpen in the event of a best case scenario (Lange and Walker both win)?

Is he swapping roles with Gilbert?

To win this thing all 3 starters and the bullpen have to perform.

Start your best and throw your best from the 1st game is the right coaching move.
