They see LSU as the only school that would have hired Ed Orgeron as head coach of its football team.

When I applied in a few cities and took interviews everyone brought up football and how they enjoy watching LSU play. Every single person mentioned how they've always wanted to go to a night game at LSU and tailgate as well. We have a pretty cool image is what I learned

Academically, no one thought any different of LSU than any other state school.

quote:

Culturally, most out-of-staters perceive Louisiana as a big New Orleans with swamps around it, where everybody parties and does the Mardi Gras thing year round, and LSU, like the Saints, gets the spillover sentiment. They think we spend weekends at Tiger Stadium during the season, and partying in NOLA or fishing in the bayous in the offseason. Which, generally, is considered in a positive manner, not as an insult.

Oh god this too

I play up the Southerner act sometimes to frick with people

From my experience, it's viewed as just another state school. Not great or bad. Most I talked to recognized LSU as a football program on par with Alabama as one of the elites in the country. For perspective, these conversations are with people I served with in the military that were from all over the place.

Lived in Montana for close to 8 years and at least all of my friends and acquaintances loved LSU and enjoyed watching LSU and the partying that they associated with us. Turned most of them into Tiger fans as I would help them pull for the Montana Grizzlies and Montana State Bobcats. Great people and turned them into Tiger fans.
