To all motorcycle riders

I'm just going to vent for a minute.
You are probably going to have to lay it down sometime or you'll get in a wreck, probably not your fault but when you wind up in the ICU don't be a pussy. We currently have 3. I have 2 of them.
There's something about men and motorcycles. Something about pushing the envelope and testing your limits etc. etc. I get that, having once been a young man myself .
But when you find your past your limits don't be surprised if it hurts. And don't whine like a little girl.
Road rash hurts but it will get better and it's much better than a head bleed that leaves you to turn water and feed like vegetable.
I used to ride and have had friends who rode daily. They always said it's not a matter of if but when you would have wreck. You know that going in, or you should. But they are always surprised by how bad it hurts. Being in the ICU sucks and I'll try toMake your stay here suck as little as possible but there is no way to make someone pain free when they have broken bones and road rash all the way down the back. I can't knock you out for 2-3 Months and wake you up and when you are better. I was asked this tonight by a 43 year old that always wanted a Harley and finally got one when he could afford it. He is a Salesman in the oil Business. Seems pretty bright, well spoken and all but he can't reconcile how any of this happened and is bemoaning his bad luck instead of understanding how Close he came to dying
I know. TLDR. Cliffs. If ride a motorcycle don't be a pussy when you wreck

Shut up murse and go put a catheter on the guy in 302.

Donorcycles keep the organs supplied for others to enjoy their lives with, so they serve a purpose....

Mine already have catheters as either one getting up and going to pee is totally out of the question.
One will never pee standing up again as he can't communicate enough to tell anyone he needs to pee. The other doesn't want the catheter but also doesn't want to move at all

Yes. That's what you really want to do is treat the person who is trying to get you through this hell your in like shite. The one who controls your pain meds? Yeah piss that person off
My docs rarely order a PCA pump. You are not going home with IV pain meds. So they transition to pills as soon as possible

OP is right. There's nothing worse than a man whining about being in pain.

One of my best friends since high school wrecked a few years ago. He'll never walk again.

Coming from someone who has logged more time on motorcycles than probably 95% of the world and raced competitively for a period, I'll say you're showing your ignorance.
You clearly have no idea what it feels like to hit the ground with that amount of force. Being that you work in ICU, you should know that road rash can be as bad or worse than 3rd degree burns.
I wouldn't say these guys are being soft by any means, they are likely in legitimate pain. If you have a problem dealing with that, then you've chosen the wrong profession.
Sadly, there was a time when nurses chose their career field to help people. Now, the majority are just there for a pay check and don't truly care to help anyone. It's all about social status and image now. Look at me, I'm a nurse.
I've worked with enough of you self righteous assholes to know how to spot them. Some of you cry more about having to do your job than teachers do.

They're the worst but whiney nurses aren't far behind.

If you're going to listen to injured motorcycle riders, don't be a pussy when they express pain and discomfort.

LOL. I'm not self righteous and I know it hurts. And I try to make you
As comfortable as I can. But you didn't read.
My point is that. If you are going do something dangerous then don't act like a puss when it goes bad. You took that risk and sometimes you will have to
Pay the price of that risk. Do it with some style and grace rather than whining like a little girl
I know first hand that road rash hurts like a bitch. The kind that essentially scrapes a Layer of skin off exposing all the nerves . But it is a
Known hazard of riding a motorcycle. Protect yourself first and when it happens and I have to do dressing changes and I've given all the diaudid I can give you. Don't whine. Don't fight me. don't cry and try to tell me how to do it so it doesn't hurt when I'm doing what I know I need to do to keep you from getting an infection.
