Why?

I don't know but I think I've seen about 1,284 episodes

It's factual and quick to the point. And only 30 minutes

Check out the Autopsy documentaries on HBO with Dr. Michael Baden.
It's Forensic Files on steroids.

Exactly but more like 20 minutes. Like fun size junk food. The stories are so well told.
But I'm already on season 7 of 9. :(

I watched that years ago. Very hard core. Some of the images and stories are still with me. I don't know why it wasn't more popular.
Strangely enough, the earliest years of Forensic Files were more hardcore than later years.

Because it's fricking awesome.
As well as this. Add the fact that it's entertaining as well. It's one of the more addicting shows ever IMO.

I love watching them on my night shifts at 2-5 am

The greatest narrator of all time, Peter Thomas.
I remember his voice narrating filmstrips when I was in elementary school in the 70s.

Only second best - Paul Winfield on City Confidential is the GOAT.

Peter Thomas had the perfect voice for 2AM television. Keeps it entertaining if you really want to stay up, but is soft enough that you can doze off without being rattled back awake every 2 minutes.

Because you know the end result, the guy is going to get caught. But it's about the journey, you see someone commit a crime and many times you wonder how they could possibly get caught. That makes for compelling TV, not being able to predict how they'll catch the bad guy.

Exactly. I can't stand watching a 2 hour Dateline and they still don't know jackshit. Hell I even rewatch forensic files episodes I've seen before at the gym.

Didn't they quit making those 10 years ago or so? I like it because they get to the point - 30 minutes instead of an hour like Snapped.

I was addicted to all that kind of stuff in the early years and got burnt out and don't care for it anymore.

Cold case files was legit too. Weepy voiced killer is craziest shite ever

Up late last night (late for this old fart anyway) - had a repeat of an episode set in Lafayette Parish, the 1998 home invasion and murder of oilman, Ron Shaw. Just fascinating how shoe print analysis and DNA off a ski mask revealed the killers. Demonstrates one of the dangers of too many people knowing the existence of your home safe.
