You're not supposed to touch money in a savings account.
So just get a CD
So just get a CD

Ally is currently offering 1.05%. I doubt you'll get much better locally, and you would probably sacrifice some convenience if you did.

Goldman sachs online banking is offering 1.2% for their savings account now.

Take a look at Capital One 360 Savings. It pays .75% with no fees. This what used to be ING Direct.
If you have $10,000 or more, you can get 1% with the 360 Money Market account. It is FDIC insured, no fees, and is easy to access.
You can link them to a checking account and easily move money back and forth as needed.

We've had a checking and savings account with Ally for a little over a year. No problems at all. The checking account has no minimums so you can leave it basically empty if you wish and just transfer money when you want as a way to access your money quickly.
They offer free ACH, but depending on your other banks policy's it may be quicker to write a check to yourself and mobile deposit it. I can move money with Ally to NFCU in under an hour for free.
The few times I called customer service while opening the accounts they were prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. Really nothing bad to say.
