With the ginormous bonus for setting the swordfish record and the excellent weather forecast I figure the Golden Nugget is going to be rockin. We may ride over from BSL Saturday for weigh in. Has anyone ever been to the weigh in? Is it worth a 30 minute ride?

I think these events are fun and certainly worth your time. Of course, I really just enjoy the boats.

I usually go every year, but unfortunately won't be around for this one. It's a good time. Drink a beer, check out some fine boats and see the fish.

you aren't lying. We went to Costa Rica this past February to sailfish. The 2nd leg of the Triple Crown was happening at the same time and it was amazing walking around the docks at night seeing the boats and talking to the captains. Lots of boats from the Gulf coast make the trip every year.

random but can I bring a soft cooler with me or do they have vendors selling booze?

They have vendors selling. I've never tried to bring a cooler, but I bet you could get away with it. There are always vendors selling coolers too, so maybe you can make it look like you just bought it.

worst comes to worst I will just bring it back to the truck. thanks. We are fishing Saturday but we should be back and cleaned up well in advance to make it to the scales

The real party is going to be at the Swollfest scales this weekend.

And it's currently only 75lbs. It will be beat this week.

My favorite part as well. It is just mind boggling to me that people can afford to purchase, and more importantly, crew and run those boats. Wife and I are both doctors and we could never sniff those things.
shite, even crazier is the amount of 30ft+ CCs you see everywhere.

What happened in Cajun Canyons?

Gee thanks for crushing my hopes of ever having one
Many of them are corporate rigs.

I didn't mean to smash hopes and dreams
I know a couple of guys with decent size small businesses who have some, but even then I don't see how they can afford it.
I know a couple of orthos who have smaller convertibles (40-50ft) and I just don't see how they do it. Even making close to $1 mil, which some of them do, the fuel/upkeep just seems out of reach.
It is a rich man's game, that's for sure.

I'm not sure how you can afford it on a mil a year either but I'd damn sure like to try.
Once you get into stuff with inboard diesels and no ability to trailer it, the costs get amazing. Like you said the crazy thing is how many of them are out there. Sport fishers are everywhere and 32'+ center consoles are basically a daily sight on the highway.

It's crazy. I have a close friend that had a 76' sportfish. The money it costs just the leave the dock is insane.
I've heard it costs roughly $10-15k per foot per year to own a sportfish (and that's if you own it outright).
