His own wikipedia page says he's a Libertarian (look it up for yourself and see). I've literally watched him in an interview where he says he's a Libertarian, and has both conservative and liberal opinions depending on the issue and which side has the most sane view, but he's not a Libertarian? Okaaaayyyy.....

He hasn't apologized in years, so I'm very disappointed at him for this.
HBO might have told him they needed him to apologize. HBO is so full of $hit anyway. The network that gave us old, disgusting people having sex on Real Sex Volumes 1 through 217 was prefectly fine with Maher making a movie that made fun of people's religions (which is sacred to many), but act like it's unacceptable when Maher says N...a in a spur of the moment stupid reference to himself. Maher is a douchebag, but he didn't say it with racist intent. He's a comedian that says outrageous $hit at times when discussing current events. I believe that's why HBO hired him.
He was stupid for saying it based on how people react these days, but ultimately it should just be seen as a dumb joke that didn't connect very well.

While I do t know what Maher considers himself now, I do know that I would never be silly enough to think Wikipedia is always correct.

I've seen him say the same but they were old interviews. Doesn't mean he hasn't changed his views a bit or who he sides with politically.

He is wrong, the correct statement is that it's more effective if you include SA and Pokistan...
Most threats are coming from Libya through Egypt

But he's not for small limited government, which is kind of required to be a libertarian. You're probably thinking back to interviews 20 years ago when he identified as such. It's been well over a decade since then. I'm a libertarian and disagree with half the shite he says.

i didn't know how HBO was going to handle this, its tricky and that's their golden boy
It is a bit tricky but I think it is pretty clear that what they will do is let his show continue as usual and say something to the effect of, what our hosts do or say does not reflect the opinions of the network, and that audiences can decide for themselves what words they find tolerable.

I watch his show from time to time. He is an acquired taste. I don't agree with his political views often, he is a little too far left for me, but he does make some good points at times and says some funny shite at times.

Bill is such a confused liberal
He wants to be Mr. Controversy but he's the first to apologize after being controversial. The sad thing is that he's helped create this environment where people get torn down for sharing their opinions.
This couldn't be further from the truth.
He's been outspoken against the apology culture in this country and how liberals have helped create it, and he's actually defended people like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly on several occasions. He often talks about how he hates the notion in this country that you should lose your job and go away for a quote, joke or comment.
He spent his entire monologue the Friday after the election excoriating liberals for breeding the discontent that turned off much of middle America and lost the election.

For all the hate people give Bill Maher, he's 100% correct on his opinions of Islam.
He has waged war on that religion.
He has waged war on that religion.

Yeah, Bill definitely isn't HBO's golden boy. That title belongs to Larry David. With that being said, his show shouldn't be canceled for using the n word.

This is also true.
He's a PETA activist/vegetarian, who has climate change doomsday views, and is pro drugs and free sex. Also wants to nationalize healthcare and jack up taxes to pay for it. Those are his liberal views.
But he's also very anti-SJW and Islam, who believes all sides should be free to say what they mean without losing their jobs.
He's a conundrum and I like it (although PETA is fricking nuts). I agree with probably 20% of his opinions, but I enjoy the show when they don't choose a dumbass republican to be on that is low hanging fruit to gang up on and mock. I like when they have a smart one that can defend themselves.
Fun fact: Ann Coulter is like his best friend. Its great when she's on the show.
ETA:
He had John Kasich on recently and it was a very fair and complementary interview.
