I haven't been to Root in years.
I recommended Commander's Palace, fwiw.

College inn is good. Have you been lately?

Yes the place is pretty good, but not a special good place someone needs to go to on their first trip to Nola.
Oh wait, you would suggest Superior Seafood
College Inn is good. If anyone says no, they have not been in awhile.

I really enjoy College Inn. Is take someone there for a meal if it wasn't the only meal they were having in New Orleans. The OP is talking one nice dinner. I wouldn't classify it in the "nice" category as I appreciate what he's asking as far as atmospere, but it a very good restaurant choice in the city in my experience.

College Inn isn't as established as Commanders or Arnaud's, but it's comfortable and has an "older" vibe.
I take my grandparents there every time they come in town because I know they will enjoy the atmosphere and the menu won't scare them away. They have a lot of Nola classics they grew up with.

Commanders Will impress their friends back home the most. Other good ones for that: Emerils or R'evolution.

ain't nothing wrong with superior seafood.
first time though would be perhaps a little more iconic. can't go wrong with commanders.

Take them to Covington, it's a hell of a lot safer....
