but major injuries sap away physical talent/years from your career also.
The guy ran for 2k and won the MVP off of a torn ACL and MCL
He's only coming off a torn meniscus, the only reason he didn't come back from it last year is bc he opted for the full repair instead of the "trim", which could've had him back in a few weeks. Full repair lessens risk of injury and it has a high probability of return to pre injury form
Even with the full repair and a 3-4 month time table there was still whispers of him coming back at the end of last year

Nah, AD will play his role. Hope he's still got it. Saints are a complimentary backfield. Kamara's progress could be the difference maker.
Right, it isn't even about Ingram or Peterson or even Kamara. You have to look at the unit as a whole. Peterson can "start" - what's that even mean? He plays the first play? Ingram will be allowed to be used more in a pass game. SP said he has a plan - he will ride the hot hand im sure - who cares who it is

AP is going to wreck ship. Mark Ingram my words.

He's gonna be around 4.2-4.4 ypc. Taking account into injury and closing games out, he's the bell cow you want to hammer them.

Wait, so we are looking at about a 1000 yard floor here? Count me in coach
Posted on 5/25/17 at 9:30 am to breauxmosexual
Whoever said LT was a bust with the NYJ should go look at his 2010 stats. smh
Posted on 5/25/17 at 9:47 am to ghost2most
History tells us that we're looking to get a good year or 2 tops out of him. The upside is tremendous and the cost was relatively low, so not much risk.
Marcus Allen was in an odd situation because his feud with Al Davis cost him carries and playing time in Oakland. Really weird. But it also kept miles off him and likely contributed to his success in his KC era. Not sure if anyone else on the list is like him in that regard.

My expectation is in accordance with his pay. They wisely made it heavily incentive laden. To earn his base pay I dunno if he even has to produce as much as Hightower. The downside risk is very low and the upside through the roof.

That was also 5 years ago. My point was we can't say he is fresh from less carries if part of that is from leg injuries.
Like I said I'm NOT saying he is done. I think he can still do very well. My bigger question was how well would he come back from the injury, which you then touched on:

I hadn't read into all of that and it makes me hopefully he will be better than 75% of his 2015 self. He also had a hip flexor(?) though, but he's also had plenty of time to recover from that too.

Yeah, I agree with Bonethug in that an injury does not equal fresh legs.
Injuries start to rack up as players age and they don't come back better than before. Everyone points to the ACL a few years ago. That was a long time ago in the life of an NFL RB.
Look, I think he'll be ok. But people are acting like we signed a superstar RB.
Another counter to the "he's a physical freak" narrative is that physical freaks are more reliant on their physical skills than someone who gets by on other attributes. He's not a good receiver so if he loses his explosiveness due to age/injury, he's not going to be anything special.
Best case scenario: He reels off a Curtis Martin death rattle year.
Worst case scenario: See the long list of names in my other post.
Likely scenario: He's a slight upgrade to Hightower and can be used with a very specific role to close out games.
If I was forecasting his stats I'd go with: 650 yards rushing. 4 YPC, 6 TDs.
That's not bad for his role, but hardly worth all the hype he's getting.

My point was also that he could still be a superstar HB, because he was that talented before the injuries that even a lesser AD is still one of the best backs in the league. I think he's still AT LEAST legit top 20, even if the stats won't back that up because of the timeshare.

We shall see about that.
We have a pretty damn good run blocking O-Line. Peat & Warford are both good run blockers, Armstead is good at both run/pass blocking, Strief is good at both...assuming he doesn't hit a wall b/c of his age, & Unger is great in pass protection & at least average(maybe a little above average) in run blocking. I'm very optimistic concerning our running game.
Pass blocking has always been our strength, & we should be good there depending on the play of Warford & Peat(also assuming that Strief keeps up his play). Hopefully they get it done in that department. Very high ceiling for our O-Line this year.
Ramczyk is also a beast in run blocking, & should be able to handle pass protection much easier at RT than LT. He gave up 1 sack last year against legit competition at LT. Kelemete can at least give you average production at run/pass blocking if he has to fill in at LG or Center. We really don't have any holes on the O-Line besides backup RG(Landon Turner might pan out, though).

That's the hope. If he can so for us what Allen did for the Chiefs, then we're all gravy chambers

You're reading things and sensationalizing what people are saying
We signed one of the best backs in NFL history to a very team friendly deal, who last time we saw him in 2015 led the league in attempts yards and TD at age 30. Age 30, he's already debunked your age myth
His injury wasn't serious
He's Adrian Peterson
He earned an optimistic outlook from a fan base until proven otherwise. This isn't blind optimism like people saying ted ginn will go for 1500 yards and 10 TDs
Posted on 5/25/17 at 1:53 pm to ghost2most
I mean we have that other guy he has to share ball with, I expect no more than 700yds and 4-6 touchdowns.

agree, the hype is proportionate to NFL knowledge IMO. The more it is name recognition, the more the hype- or if he was from LSU (3 page Tharold Simon thread)
Sure, I hope he goes off all world again but that is not a need here nor an expectation from most. YPC will mean a lot more than total yards.
Posted on 5/25/17 at 3:45 pm to blueslover
So they apparently want to make sure he won't be a one dimensional back here because they had him working in his pass catching skills today. And everyone felt the need to report on it.

Did 2016 not count or something? He played three games before he got hurt and he sucked.
As for unrealistic expectations, I'm basing my comments on things like the number of threads on here about him and the fact that it seems like he's the No. 1 Saints topic for every caller on a national show.
I get it. I'm in the minority in that I'm not really excited about him. I don't care that he's a HOFer. So was Champ Bailey.
"He's Adrian Peterson." What does that even mean? Joe Montana is Joe Montana. That doesn't mean he's still a good NFL QB.
His injury was serious enough to make him miss most of the season after looking like arse when he did play. In three games last year he averaged less than 2 YPC...
I'd say expectations are way too high based on name and ridiculous comments like those by Heath Evans.
Also, I didn't say anything about the age "30." I specifically looked up age 32.

Do some research on a meniscus tear
and MIN graded out as the 30th run blocking unit last season. They were terrible.
Saints graded out as the best.
