12 pack a day isn't shite as long as you are living an otherwise reasonably healthy lifestyle. Of course genetics come into play but unfortunately your doctor doesn't know shite about your liver unless he does a biopsy. Also 15 years means your brain doesn't know any other way two shut down at the end of the day. If you quit you in for some real hell, forget the withdrawals. Just keep it going and take those B vitamins in tons of water and go out like a man.

Whatever you are physically able to do and however happy you find yourself, multiply that times 100 if you "quit alcohol."

Gave it up after 14 years of abuse. There's no such thing a functioning, someone is suffering. There are people around you who despise your drinking. You despise your drinking. Your body is broke.

I stopped in my 30s. Now if I have a drink at a party I take about two sips and I'm done with it.

Bill.
Its one thing to "want to quit"...and being able to quit. Try putting it down for a week and let us know how you feel. From there we can advise in a more reasonable fashion.
